Terriers Fall Short Against Wildcats in Five Sets

DAVIDSON, N.C. -- Wofford volleyball drops a five-setter to Davidson 3-2 (25-20, 16-25, 27-29, 25-18, 15-11) Saturday afternoon in the season opening Southern Conference road trip.

In the first set the Wildcats broke open the a 16-15 set with a 7-3 run to take a 23-18 lead.  Davidson would go on to take the set 25-20.

Wofford broke a tie at ten in the second set with a 10-2 run en route to a 25-16 set two win to even the match at one set a piece.  

The Wildcats pulled away early in the third set as they took a 10-6 lead, but the Terriers rallied to tie the set at ten.  Davidson would pull away again late in the set with a 20-16 lead, only to see Wofford force a tie at 22.  Neither team could close the set until the Terriers broke a tie at 27 on a Wildcat attack error then won the set, 29-27, on an Arden Anderson kill.

In set four, Wofford  was never able to gain the lead as Davidson used a 10-3 run to start the set as they led wire-to-wire for the 25-18 win and force a decisive set five.

Wofford fell behind 10-7 in the fifth set but went on a 4-0 run to take an 11-10 lead.  However, the Terriers wouldn’t score another point as the Wildcats mounted their own run, 5-0, to close out the set, 15-10, and win the match.

Rachel Woodlee paced the Terriers with a double-double as she had 14 kills and ten digs.  Anderson and Liguori added 11 kills a piece.  Liguori also notched a double-double with 15 digs to go along with her 11 kills.  Reagan Styles led the Terriers defensively with 16 digs, while Anderson had five total blocks.  Bekah Dorsey handed out 45 assists in the match.

Wofford (10-6, 0-2) will travel to nearby Converse College for their next match on Wednesday, September 28 at 7 p.m.
