SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Wofford volleyball fell in three sets, (25-23, 25-19, 25-21), to Furman Tuesday night in a Southern Conference match in the Benjamin Johnson Arena.
Wofford falls to 9-7 overall and 0-4 in the SoCon, while Furman improves to 13-5 and 2-2.
In the opening set, Furman got out to an early lead, 10-6. The Terriers were able to cut the two points, 13-11 and 14-12, but the Paladins pulled away to a six point lead, 18-12. Wofford battled back and cut the lead late, 23-20 and 24-22, but Furman held on for the 25-23 lead.
Furman again took an early lead to open the second set, 14-8, but only to see Wofford battle back and pull within a point, 19-18. However, the Paladins finished the set on a 6-1 run to earn the 25-19 win.
Trailing 10-7 in the third set, Wofford went on a 4-1 run and tied the set at 11. Furman answered as they took a slim lead, 13-11. Wofford was never able to retain the lead as Furman took the set, 25-21, to complete the match sweep.
The Paladins held a small advantage in hitting percentage, .297-.175, but had 18 more kills than the Terriers, 48-30.
Amanda Liguori led Wofford with 11 kills, as she was the only Terrier with double-digit kills. Rachel Woodlee followed with six kills, while Wendy Burnett added five kills. Arden Anderson had a match-high three total blocks, one solo block and two block assists.
Bekah Dorsey handed out 24 assists giving her 1,984 career assists, just 16 shy of the 2,000 assists mark. She will become only the fifth Terrier all-time with 2,000 assists.
Reagan Styles collected 12 digs pulling her within 18 digs of the all-time Wofford record of 1,454 digs.
Chandler Ambrester led the Paladins with 16 kills, and Natalie Braun with 13 kills. Braun added 12 digs as she recorded the only double-double of the match. Caitlyn Scioscia picked up a match-high 14 digs, while Elle Ross followed with 13 digs. Jo Wilks passed out 42 assists for the Paladins.
Prior to the match, Wofford honor Anderson for breaking the Wofford block assists record.
Wofford returns with a two-day road trip to Charleston, S.C. with matches against The Citadel on Friday, October 5 at 6 p.m. and College of Charleston on Saturday, October 6 at 2 p.m.
