SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Wofford volleyball team swept Converse 3-0 (25-23, 25-15, 26-24) Wednesday night in a nonconference match.
Wofford had an early lead, but Converse came back and forced at tie at 14. After trading points, the Terriers mounted a 3-0 run to take an 18-15 lead. Wofford held the lead, until Converse battled back to cut the lead to 24-23, but a block by Liz Buterbaugh and Arden Anderson ended the set, 25-23.
In the second set, Wofford jumped out to an 11-6 lead. Converse trimmed the lead to 12-10, but the Terriers pulled away 17-13 and won the set 25-15.
Converse started the third set with a 7-3 lead, but Wofford answered with a 4-0 run to force a tie at seven. With the score tied at nine, the Terriers took a two-point lead, 11-9, and extended the lead out to four points, 14-10. Converse kept the set tight cutting the gap to two points, 15-13, but the Terriers responded as they pushed the lead back to four points, 17-13. Wofford kept control of the set until Converse battled back and tied the set at 24. Wofford pushed the final two points to claim the set, 26-24
Wofford was led offensively by Wendy Burnett who had seven kills and a .636 hitting percentage. Alex Bidgood also added seven kills.
Wofford returns to action Friday at in-state rival Furman Friday at 6 p.m.
