Box Score Box Score

WINSTON-SALEM, NC – Wofford men’s soccer team opens the season with a loss to Wake Forest 1-0 Saturday night at Spry Stadium in Winston-Salem.  The Terriers fall to 0-1 for the season, and the Demon Deacons improve to 1-0.

Wake Forest controlled the majority of the first half.  The Demon Deacons created several scoring chances as they held the edge in shots (10-2) and corners (4-0) over the Terriers.  However, no saves were recorded as neither goalkeeper was truly tested.  Wake Forest’s best chance came in the 44th minute but Blair Gaines was able to block the shot before reaching Terrier goalie Andrew Drennan.

Wake Forest was able to break the scoreless tie in the 64th minute when Jalen Robinson headed the ball past Drennan to give Wake a 1-0 lead.  Collin Martin sent a corner kick into the box that was deflected by a Terrier before Robinson found the back of the net.  The Terriers pushed hard to score an equalizer in the second half but were unable to get a shot on goal.  Wake finished the game with a 19-8 edge in shots and 6-1 advantage on corners.

Michael Lisch earned the win for the Deacons to improve to 1-0 on the year.  Drennan, who faced 19 shots and recorded three saves, falls to 0-1.
