CONWAY, S.C. - The Wofford men’s soccer team earned a 1-0 victory Friday over Bowling Green in the first game of the Coastal Carolina Men’s Soccer Invitational. Ryan Hurst scored his first goal of the year as the Terriers improved to 2-2-0 on the season, while Bowling Green falls to 1-2-1.
Wofford opened the scoring in the 12th minute when Nestor Jaramillo assisted on Ryan Hurst game-winning goal. Jaramillo played a through ball to Hurst who was able to chip the Bowling Green keeper to give the Terriers a 1-0 lead. Wofford controlled the remainder of the first half but only led 1-0 at the break.
The Terriers also controlled the majority of the second half, but were unable to add to their lead. Wofford held the edge in shots (10-4) and corners (4-1) in the second half. The Wofford defense was too strong through out the game on their way to recording a shutout.
Andrew Drennan earned the shutout win for the Terriers and improves to 2-2 for the year. He recorded two saves on eight shots faced. Michael Wiest gets the loss for the Falcons and falls to 1-2-1 on the season. He recorded one save on 17 shots faced.
The Terriers return to the pitch Sunday for their second game of the Coastal Carolina Invitational against Florida Atlantic. The match is set to kick-off at 2:00 p.m. in Conway, S.C.
