Men’s Soccer Defeats Presbyterian, 4-0 in Non-Conference Play

Box Score SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Senior forward Chase West scored goals in the 13th and 81st minutes of the match as the Wofford men's soccer team defeated the Blue Hose of Presbyterian College 4-0 on Wednesday evening.

With the win, the Terriers improve to 9-5-1 overall on the season heading into their final two matches of the season. Presbyterian drops to 3-12-0 overall with the loss.

Sophomore midfielder Nestor Jaramillo opened the scoring for the Terriers in the third minute when he capitalized off a Blue Hose turnover making the score 1-0.

Presbyterian would respond with a chance to equalize in the 12th minute when Josh Carter's second effort of the match hit the right post.

Wofford would then extend its lead to 2-0 in the 13th minute when freshman goalkeeper Garrett Closs' goal kick was flicked on by sophomore midfielder Connor Davis to senior forward Chase West who slotted the ball home from 14-yards out.

Davis would then score his 10th goal of the season in the 34th minute when he finished a bouncing ball inside the six-yard box to push the Terrier lead to 3-0 going into the half.

Jaramillo got the second half started quickly with a volley from 20 yards out that was saved by Blue Hose goalkeeper Tyler Beadle in the 47th minute.

Senior forward Dennis Moore followed up with a shot in the 49th minute that was blocked inside the six-yard box.

Jaramillo would then have a great chance cleared off the line by John Speed in the 52nd minute, keeping the game at 3-0.

The Blue Hose would then get a chance off a free kick in the 60th minute, but Ignatio Monchetti's shot sailed high over the goal.

After many chances, West scored the final goal of the match when he hit an absolute bullet from 18-yards out that hit off the inside of the right post and into the net in the 81st minute making the final score 4-0.

For the match, Wofford outshot Presbyterian 23-7 and also won the corner battle 7-1.

In goal, Closs earned his sixth win and third shutout of the season facing seven Blue Hose shots. Beadle played for 75 minutes and fell to his 10th loss of the season making five saves. Tanner Osborne played the final 15 minutes of the match.

Wofford returns to action on Saturday November 2, when they travel to Greenville, South Carolina to take on the Furman Paladins with the Southern Conference regular season title on the line. The Terriers can clinch the regular season title with a win or a draw. The match starts at 7:00 pm.

The men's soccer team returns home on Tuesday November 5 when they host non-conference opponent East Tennessee State University at Snyder Field for Senior Night at 7:00 pm.
