Women’s Soccer Drops Decision to Furman

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Wofford College women's soccer team dropped a hard-fought, 4-2, decision to the Paladins of Furman on Friday night at Snyder Field.

Furman's Carlie Couch scored the game-winner in the 49th minute. India Robinson serviced the ball into Couch who went one-on-one with senior keeper Kara Boggs, blasting the ball into the right-side netting.

The Terriers were outshot, 28-15, in the outing, with both sides earning five opportunities from the corner. The two sides combined for 18 fouls, nine apiece, with the Terriers earning two yellow cards.

The scoring began early, with the Paladins striking twice in the first 20 minutes. Kristi Baker scored for Furman first at the 15:47 mark, blasting the ball into the side netting after an assist from Robinson. Four minutes later, Molly Dwyer scored, sending a blocked shot back into the net for the rebounded opportunity.

Wofford retaliated before the end of the first half, with freshman defender Rachel Fenner scoring her first career goal to put the Terriers within one. Fenner received the ball on a clearance from the Furman defense before rocketing the ball into the top corner from 30 yards out.

Furman found the back of the net twice before the Terriers could score again. Following Couch's 49th minute goal, Stephanie DeVita scored for the Paladins on a shot inches from the goal line, sneaking the ball in on a tight angle at the 81:46 mark.

Under a minute later, junior forward Vicki Hill was tackled in the Furman box, leading to a penalty kick. Senior midfielder Maureen Buff converted the attempt for her fifth goal of the season. Buff's goal marked the 15th of her career, tying her for ninth place all-time in goals.

The Terriers have a week off before playing Chattanooga next Friday. The women's soccer team kicks off at 6 p.m. on Snyder Field.
