GREENSBORO, N.C. – Down two sets to one and trailing UNCG 22-15 in the fourth, the Wofford volleyball team put together a ferocious comeback. The Terriers rallied for 10 of the next 11 points, stunning the Spartans 25-23 and forcing an unthinkable tiebreak.

It was not to be.
Â
On its home court, UNCG dominated the fifth set. Wofford never led and trailed 11-4 before having its hopes of a comeback dashed (15-25, 25-17, 20-25, 25-23, 7-15) in a thrilling Southern Conference volleyball match, Saturday night at Fleming Gymnasium.
Â
After getting blocked 11 times in a three-set loss to East Tennessee State Friday night, Wofford (10-14, 2-5 SoCon) suffered a season-high 14.5 blocks at the hands of UNCG (12-8, 4-3 SoCon). Senior blocker Vicky Harley rejected a match-high 10 Wofford attacks, including three in the final set.
Â
Though the result didn't end up in their favor, the Terriers walked away with a lot to build off. The young group of 10 freshmen went toe-to-toe with the Spartans all night, nearly matching them in every statistical category. The two sides were near level in kills, hitting percentage, assists and digs. The only significant discrepancy was on the block, where UNCG's 14.5 more than doubled Wofford's six.
Â
The two-hour marathon saw freshman Bella Santoro lead Wofford with 13 kills and earn her team-high seventh double-double with 10 digs. Senior right side Taylor Baird posted 12 kills and two aces to lead the team with 15.5 points. Junior libero Jessica Graham led all players on the ground with 25 digs.
Â
UNCG saw senior middle Kelsey Sidney and freshman outside Ashley Muench go for a match-high 14 kills. Sidney's came at a more effective rate of .229, while Muench wasn't as threatening at .067. Setter Sara Hohman grabbed a match-high 42 assists and three Spartans found 10-plus digs, including Muench for a double-double.
Â
The loss is Wofford's 12th straight in the series with UNCG. Just once in the previous 11 matches had it come down to five sets.

The Wofford volleyball team plays five of its next six at home, beginning Wednesday at 7 p.m. against Mercer. The Terriers won the meeting earlier this year in three sets down in Macon, Georgia
