Wofford welcomes new live Boston terrier mascot

Blitz III (Magnolia) becomes the next official "Wofford Terrier"

Wofford welcomes a new live Boston terrier mascot to roam the sidelines of football games this fall.  Upon the retirement of Blitz II (Ayeryel) at the end of last season, a nomination process ensued and this February over 65 Wofford students, faculty, staff and fans held a blind vote (names of the dogs and owners were hidden).  When the votes were counted, "Magnolia," owned by Leah Harris '05 of Atlanta, Ga., came out on top and will assume the role of "Blitz III", the official Wofford Terrier mascot, beginning for the 2014 football season.

Blitz III (Magnolia) follows in the paw prints of Ayeryel (2008-13) and Ka-Dee, our first live mascot of the modern era serving from 2003-2008.  Magnolia becomes by far the youngest Boston to assume this role as she was born August 24, 2013 in Cumming, Ga. and will be just over a year old when she takes to the sidelines at her first game, August 30, 2014 at Georgia Tech. (Ironically, a road game for the football team is a "home game" for our mascot.)  Magnolia, at just 9 months old presently, is quite spunky and energetic. Fans that come up to her for some loving will no doubt get plenty and be ready for her to jump right up to you.  She is also calm around our young fans as well.  She is already working on playing catch with her specialized football toys and may have a few tricks to show off this fall.  Wofford fans will also be pleased to know that despite her relative youth, she has already acquired a disaffection for the color purple.

Leah Harris welcomed Magnolia to her family on October 13, 2013. Harris started her own business, Tulles Of The Trade, in 2006 and a year later created a division called "Terrier Tulles" which many Wofford fans will recognize.  In fact, Magnolia made her first trip to Gibbs Stadium to hang out at the Terrier Tulles booth for the final home football game of last season and made more than a few friends.  Little did either know the role they would be called upon to play a part in the life of Wofford football gameday in the future.  Harris is active as a young alum with the Wofford Atlanta Alumni Group, Tri Delta and Panhellenic Alumni organizations in the Atlanta area and donates to the Terrier Club and Annual Fund.

For fans who want to meet Magnolia in person, she will participate in her first Terrier Walk and roam the Gibbs Stadium sidelines for the first time during the home opener September 13.  Click here for a complete look at the entire Wofford mascot team, the lineage of the live mascots since 2003 and an explanation of the nickname "Blitz".  For more information, contact Wofford Sports Marketing at 864-597-4110.
