GREENVILLE, S.C. – The women's soccer team fell to rival Furman at Stone Soccer Stadium Friday night by a final score of 3-0.

Four minutes into the match, Furman midfielder Stephanie DeVita scored a header goal off a cross from defender Kristen Baker. Goalkeeper
Mayson Liner was able to get a hand on the header, but the ball carried into the back right corner of the net to give the Paladins an early 1-0 lead.

Wofford's first scoring opportunity came at the 17' mark. Wofford earned a corner kick opportunity that
Mary Beth Bleekrode launched into the box, but the Paladins were able to knock the ball out of the box.

Furman (9-4-1, 2-1-1 SoCon) took the 1-0 lead into the half, having a chance to increase their lead right before the half but the Terrier defense was able to block a last-second shot off a corner kick to keep the deficit at one.

The Terriers (2-6-3, 1-3-1 SoCon) had their best chance of tying the match at the 71st minute. Wofford pushed the ball up deep into Furman territory, with Bleekrode finding an open
Brianna LaFontant on the right side. LaFontant shot the ball past Furman goalkeeper Maggie Grisell, but the ball went wide left.

Minutes later, DeVita got past the Terrier defense for a one-on-one opportunity. Liner was able to save DeVita's first shot, but the midfielder scored on the rebound shot to give the Paladins a 2-0 lead.

Paladin forward Jaime Alexander added a late goal from long distance at the 81' mark, giving the Paladins their 3-0 final score.

Overall for the match, the Paladins outshot the Terriers 17-13 and took five corner kicks compared to the Terriers' three corner attempts.

Grisell earned the victory in net for the Paladins, finishing the match with two saves. Liner suffered the defeat while saving six shots over all 90 minutes.

Furman now has a 18-6-1 series advantage over the Terriers in 25 matches. The Terriers are 4-9-1 against Furman at Stone Soccer Stadium.

The team returns home to play Sunday against South Carolina State at 2 p.m., for their final non-conference match of the season. Admission for the match at Snyder Field is free.
