Football Wins 38-28 Over Furman

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Wofford College football team ended the season with a 38-28 win over Furman at Gibbs Stadium on Saturday afternoon. With the game tied at 14 in the second quarter, the Terriers scored the next 17 points and added a touchdown in the final seconds for the victory.

The Terriers are 5-6 on the season and 3-4 in Southern Conference play, while the Paladins are 4-7 and 2-5 in the league. Wofford was led by quarterback Evan Jacks with 120 rushing yards and two touchdowns, along with 23 passing yards. Chase Nelson added 85 rushing yards and a touchdown, while Lennox McAfee had 82 rushing yards. Furman was led by P.J. Blazejowski with 215 passing yards and three touchdowns, adding 31 rushing yards. Jordan Snellings had 102 receiving yards and a touchdown.

"No doubt this is a great way to end the season," said head coach Mike Ayers. "We had one of those years were we just had to keep battling and hang in there. Furman is a lot like us this year. We both have been our own worst enemy. We played a really good game today with the exception of a couple situations and I hope this will be a catalyst into the off season for us. Our guys worked hard and earned this victory. Furman is a good team and Bruce Fowler and his staff do a great job. We knew it would be a difficult game and Furman never quit. We have to make sure that once we start this thing over, we understand the process we need to go through on a daily basis as we get ready for next year."

The Paladins had the ball first, but on the first play of the game Jaleel Green picked off P.J. Blazejowski and returned it 32-yards for a touchdown. Wofford had a 7-0 lead at the 14:47 mark of the first quarter. Furman had a rushing first down and a personal foul penalty to move the ball into Wofford territory. Jon Croft Hollingsworth had a 26-yard field goal go wide left and Wofford took over at the 20-yard line. After moving the ball across midfield, the Terriers had a fourth-and-one that was converted by Evan Jacks on the ground. A fourth-and-five run was short and Furman took over on downs at the 27-yard line with 3:59 left in the first quarter.
