BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – On Saturday afternoon, the Wofford College baseball team needed eleven innings to defeat Gardner-Webb 8-5 at John Henry Moss Stadium. The Runnin' Bulldogs scored twice in the ninth inning to send the game to extra frames. Both teams scored a run in the tenth, but Wofford scored three runs in the top of the eleventh to earn the win.

Wofford is 11-4 on the season, while Gardner-Webb is 10-4 overall. Alec Paradowski had three hits for Wofford, while James Plaisted and Matt Pelt each had two RBIs. Starter Luke Leftwich struck out 13 batters. Gardner-Webb was led by Collin Thacker with three hits and a pair of RBIs. It was the first extra inning game of the season for both teams. Â Â

The Terriers were retired in order in the top of the first inning. With two outs in the bottom of the second, Collin Thacker hit a solo home run to right field for a 1-0 lead. Wofford left a runner on base in the top of the second after a walk by Conor Clancey. The Runnin' Bulldogs were retired in order in the bottom of the second.

With two outs in the top of the third, Alec Paradowski hit a solo home run over the fence in right field. It was the first run allowed by starter Matt Fraudin this season in 22 innings. In the bottom of the third, Luke Leftwich struck out the side. Wofford was retired in order in the top of the fourth inning.

The Runnin' Bulldogs took a 2-1 advantage with a lead-off home run by Ryan Hodge in the bottom of the fourth. Gardner-Webb added a single, but the runner was left on base at the end of the inning. Wofford had a two-out single by Derek Hirsch in the top of the fifth but was stranded. Gardner-Webb had a two-out single in the bottom of the fifth, but a great catch by centerfielder Kody Ruedisili ended the inning.

Alec Paradowski led off the sixth with a walk, Matt Ramsay doubled and James Plaisted reached on an error to load the bases. A single up the middle by Matt Pelt drove in two runs to give Wofford a 3-2 lead. Wofford left two runners on base to end the top of the sixth. With one out in the bottom of the sixth, the Runnin' Bulldogs had a player hit by a pitch and a single. Back-to-back strikeouts ended the scoring chance for Gardner-Webb.

With two outs in the top of the seventh, Alec Paradowski singled. A triple to the wall in right center by Matt Ramsay scored Paradowski for a 4-3 lead. Gardner-Webb was retired in order in the bottom of the seventh inning. Wofford had one runner reach base in the top of the eighth, but he was caught stealing to end the top half. The Runnin' Bulldogs were retired in order in the bottom of the eighth.

Wofford led off the top of the ninth with a single up the middle by Carson Waln and he advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt. He moved to third on a ground out, but the inning ended on a ground ball to the shortstop. Gardner-Webb opened the bottom of the ninth with a walk and a single. Another single loaded the bases with nobody out. A 4-6-3 double play allowed one run to score. With two strikes, a wild pitch scored the runner from third to tie the game at 4-4. A strikeout ended the ninth inning.

In the top of the tenth, James Plaisted walked with one out. Matt Pelt added a single and a double steal gave Wofford runners at second and third. Demetrius Jennings hit a sacrifice fly to right field to score Plaisted for a 5-4 lead. Gardner-Webb answered by opening the bottom of the tenth with a triple down the right line. A double by Collin Thacker drove in a run to tie the game at 5-5.

Carson Waln walked to start the 11th inning for Wofford. He moved to second on a sacrifice bunt. A single up the middle by Mack Nathanson scored Waln for a 6-5 lead. Alec Paradowski singled and gave Wofford runners on the corners with one out. Matt Ramsay put down a bunt and the runner was out at the plate for the second out. A double to centerfield by James Plaisted scored Paradowski and Ramsay for an 8-5 advantage. A fly ball ended the top of the 11th inning.

Gardner-Webb led off the bottom of the 11th with a single. With one out, a double by Matt Simmons gave the Runnin' Bulldogs two runners in scoring position. A strikeout was followed by a walk to load the bases with two outs. A strikeout ended the game with the Terriers an 8-5 winner.

Wofford starting pitcher Luke Leftwich threw eight innings and allowed only two runs on six hits. He struck out a career-high 13 batters and did not issue a walk. Will Stillman went 1.1 innings in the save opportunity and gave up three runs on four hits with a strikeout. Spencer Kulman (3-1) threw the final 1.2 innings and did not allow a run on two hits with three strikeouts.

Matt Fraudin started for Gardner-Webb and went seven innings. He allowed four runs on six hits with five strikeouts and two walks. Beau Hilton did not allow a hit in one inning. Andrew Massey went 1.1 innings and gave up a run on one hit. Ryan Boelter (0-1) threw two-thirds of an inning and allowed one run on a hit. Jeremy Walker threw the final inning and gave up two runs on three hits.

The Terriers goes for the sweep of three-game series on Sunday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. at Russell C. King Field. On Tuesday, Wofford will travel to Savannah State at 5:00 p.m.
