SPARTANBURG, S.C. – With the game tied after seven innings, back-to-back triples in the bottom of the eighth inning plated the winning run as Wofford defeated Furman 3-2 on Sunday afternoon at Russell C. King Field. With the win, the Terriers earned a series win over the Paladins.

Wofford is 35-18 overall and 12-8 in the Southern Conference. Furman is 23-28 overall and 10-11 in conference play. The back-to-back triples by sophomores Carson Waln and Kody Ruedisili gave the Terriers a win on senior day in the final home game of the season. Senior Conor Clancey added three hits, while freshman pitcher Adam Scott went eight innings with only two runs allowed. The Paladins were led by Brandon Elmy, who had two solo home runs.

The Paladins were retired in the top of the first inning. Wofford led off the bottom of the first with back-to-back walks. A fielder's choice was followed by a single by Conor Clancey to load the bases. Carson Waln reached on a fielding error and a run scored for a 1-0 lead. Back-to-back strikeouts ended the first innings with the bases loaded.

Both teams were retired in order in the second inning. With one out in the top of the third, Brandon Elmy tied the game at 1-1 with a solo home run to center field. Furman added a bunt single and a walk, but both runners were stranded. Wofford led off the bottom of the third with a walk, but a double play erased the base runner. Conor Clancey hit a single, but was left on base to end the third.

After Furman was retired in order in the top of the fourth, Kody Ruedisili singled to lead off the Wofford half of the fourth. With one out, Max McDougald singled and moved to second on the throw, advancing Ruedisili to third. A ground out by Derek Hirsch scored Ruedisili for a 2-1 lead.

Furman and Wofford both left a pair of runners in scoring position in the fifth inning. The Paladins had two outs when a double by Jordan Simpson. Blake Chisolm singled to left field, but Simpson was out at home on the play to end the top half. Wofford was retired in order in the bottom of the sixth.

Brandon Elmy hit his second solo home run of the game, this time to right field, to tie the game at 2-2 with one out in the top of the seventh. Back-to-back strikeouts sent the game to the seventh inning stretch. Wofford left one runner on base in the bottom of the seventh after James Plaisted walked.

The Paladins were retired in order in the top of the eighth inning. Carson Waln led off the bottom of the eighth with a triple to left field. A triple by Kody Ruedisili drove in Waln for a 3-1 lead, however the Terriers were unable to score Ruedisili from third base before the eighth inning ended. Furman opened the ninth inning with a walk. A double play and strikeout ended the game.

Wofford starting pitcher Adam Scott (7-3) threw eighth innings with two runs allowed on seven hits. Scott had seven strikeouts and only one walk. Will Stillman earned his 15 save of the season with one strikeout in the ninth inning.

Will Gaddis started for Furman and went six innings with two runs allowed on five hits. He struck out five and walked four batters. Ryan Griffith (0-1) threw an inning with one run allowed on one hit. Â Elliott Warford added an inning with one hit allowed and a strikeout.

Prior to the contest, Wofford honored six seniors in their final home game at Russell C. King Field. Connell Anderson, Conor Clancey, Tanner Hawley, Matt Pelt, James Plaisted and Matt Ramsay have led the team to back-to-back 30 win seasons for the first time in program history and secured the first winning SoCon record in since joining the league.

Wofford will take the week off for exams and return to action Friday night at East Tennessee State University for the final series of the season.
