CHARLESTON, S.C. – On Friday afternoon, Wofford freshman pitcher Adam Scott threw a complete game shutout over Furman in the 2015 Southern Conference Baseball Tournament presented by Mountain Shore Properties at Riley Park. Derek Hirsch drove in the lone run for Wofford in the second inning as the Terriers won 1-0 to reach the semifinals for the second straight season.

Wofford is 38-21 overall, while Furman is 25-33 this season. The Terriers were limited to only six hits in the game, with two by Max McDougald. Adam Scott held Furman to four hits and had nine strikeouts. Wofford will play Samford on Saturday at 9:00 a.m., while Furman was eliminated from the tournament.
"I couldn't have handled another one of those today." said head coach Todd Interdonato. "Everybody here knows what's going on. We were just hoping to get the leadoff guy out in the ninth to settle Adam down. Those guys fight, scratch, and claw. Thankfully we were able to make one more pitch this afternoon than we did this morning. We'll celebrate this one until we get on the bus and then we'll start worrying about Samford again."

After Furman was retired in order to start the game, James Plaisted walked with two outs in the bottom of the first. A ground out ended the opening inning. Furman went down in order in the top of the second. With one out in the bottom of the second, Kody Ruedisili had a single to left field for the first hit of the game. He was caught stealing second before Max McDougald hit a double down the left line. Demetrius Jennings earned a walk for runners at first and second. Derek Hirsch hit a single to center field to drive in McDougald, but was out trying to reach second. Wofford had a 1-0 lead after two innings.

The Paladins had a double with one out in the top of the third inning. A strikeout and ground out ended the top half. Alec Paradowski led off the bottom of the third with a single. A double play and strikeout closed out the third inning. Furman opened the top of the fourth with a single, which was followed by a pair of strikeouts. A single gave the Paladins runners on the corners before a fielder's choice ended the scoring opportunity.

Wofford was retired in order in the bottom of the fourth inning and Furman went in order in the top of the fifth inning. With one out in the bottom of the fifth, Demetrius Jennings had an infield single but was caught stealing second base. Derek Hirsch walked before a fly ball ended the fifth inning. Both teams were retired in order in the sixth inning.

In the top of the seventh, Furman was retired in order. With two outs, Max McDougald reached first on an infield single but a ground out ended the seventh inning. Both teams were retired in order in the eighth inning. The Paladins led off the top of the ninth with a single up the middle and he moved to second on a sacrifice bunt. A ground out picked up the second out, but the tying run advanced to third base. A strikeout swinging by Chris Ohmstede ended the game.

Wofford freshman starter Adam Scott (8-4) threw his second complete game shutout (Harvard, March 1). In nine innings, he allowed only four hits. He struck out a career-high nine batters and did not issue a walk in the victory.

Ryan Griffith (1-2) started for Furman and went a career-long six innings with one run allowed on five hits. Elliott Warford threw the final two innings and allowed one hit with three strikeouts.

Wofford advances to play on Saturday at 9:00 a.m. in the semifinals against Samford. The Terriers will need to beat the Bulldogs twice on Saturday to reach the championship game.
