SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Wofford's men's soccer team dropped an exhibition match against Appalachian State by a final score of 3-1.
Â
Terriers midfielder
Nestor Jaramillo scored the first goal of the team's 2015 season in the first period, striking a ball from 20 yards out over Mountaineers keeper Jake Chasteen's outstretched hand into the top right corner of the net.
Â
The Mountaineers scored all three of their goals in the third period, including two by Stephen Chapman that gave them the victory.
Â
Terriers head coach
Ralph Polson felt encouraged by what he saw out on the field Sunday.
Â
"Our goal tonight was to play everyone we had and reward them for four hard days of training prior," Polson said after the game. "Do you want to win? Yeah you do, but at the end of the day it's about giving them opportunities to play. First 30 minutes with what could be our starters we were clearly the better team, but I thought in the second 30 [minutes] that things didn't drop much. [But] I was pleased. Putting the score aside, I think we got out of it what we wanted."
Â
The Terriers play two more exhibition matches before the regular season begins. The team travels to College of Charleston Wednesday for a 7 p.m. match before hosting an exhibition against UNC Asheville on August 23 at 5 p.m.
Â
Wofford opens the regular season at home against Gardner-Webb University on August 28 at 7 p.m.
