Women's Soccer Drops Home Finale to Furman

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Wofford women's soccer team dropped its regular season home finale to Furman, 3-0, on Friday night at Snyder Field.

The Paladins opened the scoring just two minutes in and added two more goals in the second half to build a comfortable lead that held the rest of the way.

In the first half, Furman's Molly Dwyer received a low cross from Treva Aycock and finished from just in front of the net to put the Paladins up a goal in the second minute. The goal was Dwyer's ninth of the season, which leads the team.

The rest of the first half, the Terriers played sound defense, keeping Furman off the board for the rest of the half, despite being outshot, 11-1.
Mayson Liner registered two saves in the half.

In the final period, the Paladins were able to run away, thanks to a 54th minute goal from Treva Aycock, who led all players with three points on the night.

Furman added their third and final goal in the 74th minute, when Melanie Rankin fed Amanda Baker, who broke away from the Wofford defense and beat goalkeeper Alex King, who entered for Liner to begin the second half.

Midfielder Emma Fletcher registered both shot attempts for the Terriers, while King entered just her second game and tallied four saves in 45 minutes.

Up next, the Terriers will have a week off, before traveling to play ETSU next Friday, October 21 at 7 p.m.
