Wofford Bounces Back to Beat Western 3-1

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – After falling 3-0 at UNC Greensboro on Friday night, the Wofford volleyball team bounced back with a 3-1 win over Western Carolina on Saturday evening in Wofford's Benjamin Johnson Arena. Wofford won the first two sets 25-23 and 25-22, respectively. The Catamounts would take the third set 25-20 before the Terriers rallied to win the fourth set 25-20 and clinch the victory. With the win, Wofford improves to 13-12 overall and 6-5 in Southern Conference action, while Western Carolina falls to 8-15 on the season and 3-7 in conference play.

The Terriers hit .152 on the match and the Catamounts were just behind in attacking percentage at .150. Wofford had four players with nine or more kills on the night. Colleen Reilly, Catie Cronister and Alex Holland each contributed 12 kills and Bella Santoro added nine of her own. Reilly leads the team this season with a .309 hitting percentage.

Kelly Bossert hit a team best .364 in the match with five kills and just one error. Bossert's final kill of the night put her into triple digits in kills with 100. Santoro hit .294, Reilly hit .258 and Cronister finished with a percentage of .200. Freshman Lorissa King and M.E. Eberhardt continued to pace the offense at the setter position as King finished with 27 assists and Eberhardt added 20. Freshman libero Madeline Savage led the defense with 23 digs. Cronister and Santoro added 13 and 10, respectively.

Wofford had eight service aces and eight blocks while Western finished with four aces and 12 blocks.

After four home matches in the last eight days, the Terriers hit the road for almost two weeks. Next up for Wofford is a 7 p.m. non-conference matchup with in state school Presbyterian College. Wofford will play at ETSU on Oct. 28 and at Mercer on Nov. 2 before hosting Chattanooga on Nov. 4.
