Terriers Sweep Furman 3-0 Saturday

Box Score ''GREENVILLE, S.C. – The Wofford volleyball team handed Furman its first home loss in two years in a packed Alley Gym on Saturday night, sweeping the Paladins in three sets. The Terriers took the first set 25-19, the second set 25-15 and the dramatic third set 25-23. With the win, the Terriers move to 11-9 on the season and 4-2 in Southern Conference action, while the Paladins fall to 7-10 on the season and 3-2 in conference play.
 
Wofford went on a 5-0 run in the first set to take an 11-6 lead and never looked back in the match. The Terriers dominated set two, but the Paladins fought back to trade points in the third set. With Wofford leading 24-23 in the third set, Colleen Reilly and Alex Holland blocked an Annie Bierman attack to seal the win. The Wofford offense hit .284 as a team while holding the Paladins to just a .153 hitting percentage.

"I'm really proud of how we recovered from a tough loss last night," said heach coach Lynze Roos. "We fought really hard start to finish and played disciplined."
 
Catie Cronister had 12 kills on the afternoon. The freshman has double digit kills in five straight matches, all conference matches, and hit .360 on Saturday. She also recorded four services aces as her serving paced the Terriers to many rallies over the course of the match.
 
Sophomore Bijonae Jones added 10 kills and hit .304 in the match. Kara Shacklette added seven kills while Reilly (6), Holland (5) and Kelly Bossert (5) had good showings as well. Freshmen setters Lorissa King and M.E. Eberhardt continued to split time and production pacing the offense. King tallied 17 assists and totaled six digs on the defensive end as well, while Eberhardt recorded 24 assists and four digs.

Bierman, a senior, paced Furman with 11 kills and seven digs.
 
After four road conference matches, the Terriers return home Tuesday in the first of four home matches, taking on S.C. State at 7 p.m.
