Terriers Down Austin Peay 96-77

 SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Wofford men's basketball team defeated Austin Peay 96-77 on Thursday evening in Benjamin Johnson Arena. With the win, Wofford improves to 4-7 and remains undefeated in the Benjamin Johnson Arena, while Austin Peay falls to 4-6 with the loss. The win, the 236th of Mike Young's Wofford career, moves him into a tie for second in career wins at Wofford.
 
"It was nice to be at home and see our team play well," said head coach Mike Young. "We needed this one bad. It's especially hard to play during exam week. I'm proud of the guys and this is certainly a good step in a positive direction."
 
Five Terriers scored in double figures to lead Wofford offensively. Ryan Sawvell had another strong outing and finished as the Terriers' leading scorer with 20 points. Sawvell went 8-10 from the field and 3-4 from beyond the arc while also pulling in five rebounds, all defensive, and dishing out three assists.
 
Fletcher Magee finished with 18 and four assists. The sophomore went 7-10 from the field, including 4-6 from three-point range, in 22 minutes of action. Jaylen Allen finished with a season high 15 points, one point shy of his career high. Allen went 5-7 from the field and 3-4 from three. Cameron Jackson finished with 14 points as the sophomore went 6-9 from the field. Senior point guard Eric Garcia scored 10 points and nine assists, one assist shy of recording his second double-double of the season. Garcia didn't allow a turnover in 22 minutes of action.
 
The Terriers recorded 25 assists to only 10 turnovers, while Austin Peay had 15 turnovers to only nine assists. Wofford shot 59.7% in the contest and Austin Peay shot 56.9%. The Terriers never trailed in the game and led by as many as 34 midway through the second half.
 
Wofford has outscored opponents 408-286 in home games this season. The Terriers are averaging 102 points inside Benjamin Johnson Arena in 2016-17.
 
Wofford concludes non-conference play next week with two road contests. The Terriers face Coastal Carolina Monday, Dec. 19 and Georgia Tech on Thursday, Dec. 22 before beginning conference play on Dec. 31 at home against Mercer.
