Volleyball Drops 3-0 Decision To Ohio

BOONE, N.C. – In the opening match of the Black and Gold Invitational, the Wofford College volleyball team was defeated 3-0 (25-14, 25-21, 25-19) by Ohio University at the Holmes Center on the campus of Appalachian State University.
 
Wofford (1-3) was led by M.E. Eberhardt with eleven assists, while Madeline Savage had ten digs. Kelly Bossart added seven kills and Kara Shacklette had a .375 attack percentage. The Bobcats (1-4) had a .208 attack percentage on the night and were led by Mallory Salis with eleven kills.
 
In the first set, the score was tied at 2-2 when the Bobcats went on a 7-1 run for a 9-3 lead. Wofford answered with the next two points, but Ohio scored four unanswered points. The Bobcats took the opening set by scoring seven of the final ten points in a 25-14 win.
 
The second set was tied eight times early and then Wofford took a lead at 12-11. The Bobcats answered with three straight points for a 14-12 advantage. The Terriers were able to tie the score again at 19 after a kill by Colleen Reilly. Ohio scored the next three points and were able to put the set away at 25-21.
 
The Bobcats jumped out to an early 9-1 lead in the third set. After Ohio took a 14-2 advantage, the Terriers rallied with six straight points and cut the deficit to 14-8. Wofford continued to chip away at the lead, but trailed 21-14 before scoring four straight to make it a 21-17 score. The Bobcats then scored the final two points in the 25-19 win to clinch the match.
 
Wofford will continue action at the Black and Gold Invitational on Saturday, facing the host school Appalachian State at 12:30 p.m., followed by UNC Wilmington at 4:30 p.m. to conclude the weekend. The first home match for the Terriers will be Tuesday, September 6 against Presbyterian College.
