Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Terriers Fall 77-66 at Chattanooga Thursday

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – The Wofford men's basketball team fell 77-66 at Chattanooga on Thursday evening in Wofford's first road conference matchup. With the loss, Wofford falls to 6-10 on the season and 1-2 in Southern Conference action, while Chattanooga, the preseason pick to win the conference, improves to 11-4 and 2-1 in conference play. The Mocs are a perfect 6-0 in McKenzie Arena this season.

"They're a really good team," said Wofford head coach Mike Young.  "I thought we were prepared and ready to go, but looking back I'm not sure we were quite ready to get them at home in January. They're the class of our league, but I thought we did some good things and I hope we will have a better crack at them at our place in the month. I thought our team fought and had some great offensive possessions and were cohesive defensively but their size, strength and experience won out. "

Ryan Savwell led Wofford with 14 points and six rebounds. Fletcher Magee and Eric Garcia joined Sawvell in double figures with 10 points. Cameron Jackson and Nathan Hoover finished with eight apiece. Matthew Pegram and Donovan Theme-Love scored four points each and Jaylen Allen and Kevon Tucker scored three points. Tucker's three points was a career high for the freshman, as was his 13 minutes played.

The first eight minutes of the contest were back and forth with neither team leading by more than three at any point. With Wofford leading 10-9, The Terriers went on a 12-2 run and extended the lead to 22-11. The Mocs rebounded and went on an 18-2 run of their own to take a 29-24 lead. Chattanooga finished the half on a 25-5 run and led 36-27 at the half.

The Mocs led by nine or more until midway through the second half when Fletcher Magee and Nathan Hoover sunk back to back three's to cut an 11 point lead to five. Leading 51-46, Chattanooga went on a 13-0 run to hold Wofford at bay and never looked back.

Tre' McLean, the preseason conference player of the year, led all players with 23 to pace the Mocs. The preseason defensive player of the year, Justin Tuoyo followed with 17 points. Tuoyo entered the game leading the nation with 3.79 blocks per game and finished with just two against the Terriers. Casey Jones and Makinde London also recorded double figures with 14 and 12, respectively.

Wofford shot 46.2% from the field while Chattanooga shot 50.0% on the night. Forty of Chattanooga's 77 points came in the paint. The Mocs also had the advantage in points off turnovers (21-9) and second chance points (10-4). Wofford committed 14 turnovers and 15 assists and Chattanooga finished with nine turnovers and nine assists.

Wofford's road swing continues as the Terriers face Samford in Birmingham on Saturday, Jan. 7 at 7 p.m. ET. Samford is 11-5 on the season and 2-1 in the conference with wins over UNCG and Western Carolina.
