Box Score Greenville, S.C. – The Wofford men's soccer team won 1-0 at Furman on Tuesday evening. Wofford found the game winner in the 79
th minute to clinch the win for the Terriers in the third annual Quinn game. Wofford has now won three straight matches improving its record to 3-10 overall and 3-2 in the Southern Conference.
The Paldadins came out strong in the first half, but the Wofford defense had an answer for every chance that Furman created. Much of the first half was played in between the penalty areas as both teams struggled to create chances.
In the 31
st minute Furman's Kyle McLagan was shown a red card by the official after he pulled
Lucas Altman down just outside the box.
Kevin Davidsson took the free kick from just outside the penalty area but the Paladin wall denied his chance. The Terriers and Paladins played the next 14 minutes scoreless, sending the match into the half tied at zero.
The offensive struggles continued in the second half as neither team were able to capitalize on the few chances in the match. Wofford finally broke through in the 79
th minute thanks to the strike from
Zach Aversano. Aversano played a touch pass to
Daniel Mayorga who completed the give and go to send Aversano into the clear where he took full advantage of the scoring opportunity. The Terriers were able to play keep away for the final 12 minutes of the match to hang on to the win.
