Men's Soccer Cruises to 6-0 victory at VMI

Lexington, Va. – The Wofford men's soccer team won 6-0 over VMI on Saturday afternoon. Wofford opened the scoring in the 7th minute and never looked back, adding five insurance goals to secure the win. With the win, the Terriers move to 4-12 overall and 4-4 in the Southern Conference.
 
Wofford started the scoring in the 7th minute when Austin Tuggle stole the ball from a Keydet defender and struck a shot from the top of the box beating the VMI keeper. Just over six minutes later Kevin Davidsson struck a shot that hit the post and Lucas Altman was there to clean up the rebound to make it 2-0. In the 22nd minute Altman struck again this time thanks to a great through ball from Sam Ross that allowed Altman to break through the VMI defense. Just before the halftime whistle in the 43rd minute Daniel Mayorga joined the party thanks to an assist from Landon Renner sending the match into the break Wofford 4, VMI 0.
 
After the break Wofford added two more goals. In the 64th minute Chris Welsh gathered a loose ball and struck a shot from the top of the box that beat the VMI keeper. Just over three minutes later in the 67th minute, Ben Nickol scored thanks to the assists from Dean Sinatra and Young Perry making it 6-0 Wofford, which would end up being the final score.
 
In the win, Wofford totaled 25 shots and 13 corner kicks. Hunter Wages, Liam Murphy and Matt Reynolds combined to record the clean sheet. Austin Tuggle scored his third goal of the season while Lucas Altman scored his fourth and fifth goals of the season. Chris Welsh and Ben Nickol both scored their third goal of the season while Daniel Mayorga scored his second goal on the year. Dean Sinatra (1), Young Perry (1), Landon Renner (1), Kevin Davidsson (4) and Sam Ross (1) all recorded assists in the match.
 
Wofford will return to the pitch on Tuesday evening when the Terriers host Furman at 7 PM on senior night at Snyder Field
