Men's Golf Finishes 11th at Steelwood

LOXLEY, Ala. – The Wofford men's golf team finished 11th at the Steelwood Collegiate Invitational. The two day, 54 hole tournament was hosted by the University of South Alabama Oct. 28-29. The 12 teams competing played the par 72 Steelwood Country Club. For the tournament, the course played 7,096 yards.
 
Teams played 36 holes on Saturday, in rainy and windy conditions, and played 18 final holes on Sunday. Wofford shot 303 in the first 18 on Sunday and then improved four shots to shoot 299 in the second 18 of the day. The Terriers shot 317 in the final round on Sunday and finished with a total score of 919, 55 over par.
 
Senior Patrick Bridges was Wofford's top golfer of the tournament. The native of Atlanta, playing in the lineup for the first time this season, shot 76 in the first round and bested that by three shots in the second round to shoot a one over par 73. He shot 79 in Sunday's final round. Bridges tied for 29th, the highest finish in his Wofford career.
 
Evan Grenus tied for 34th place with a total score of 229. The senior shot 74 in his first round, the best round by the Terriers in the opening 18. He shot 77 and 78 the second and third rounds, respectively.
 
Freshman Nick Willis tied for 42nd. He shot 77 in the first round and improved four strokes in the second round to card a 73, tying for Wofford's best round of the tournament. He shot 81 on Sunday and finished with a score of 231.
 
Walker Simas, Wofford's lone sophomore, shot 76 in both his first and second rounds and finished with an 83 on Sunday.
 
Freshman Ryan Marter shot 85 in the first round and rebounded to shoot 79 in the final round. He was disqualified in the second round for signing an incorrect scorecard.
 
Alabama, the top team in the country, won the tournament at two-over par, just one shot better than runner-up Kennesaw State. Host school South Alabama finished third and Kentucky and Rice rounded out the top five. UAB's R.J. Keur won the individual title by shooting six under par.
 
The tournament concludes the fall season for the Terriers. Wofford returns to the course Feb. 26-27, 2018 as part of the Wexford Intercollegiate. The tournament, hosted by Francis Marion, takes place at the Wexford Plantation in Florence, S.C.
