CLEMSON, S.C. – On Tuesday afternoon, the Wofford College baseball team was defeated 9-2 by Clemson at Doug Kingsmore Stadium. The Tigers scored two runs each in the first and second innings to take the lead and then added five runs in the eighth inning to secure the victory.

Wofford is 2-6 on the season, while #12 Clemson is 6-2. The Terriers were led by
Brett Hash with an RBI single and
Brett Rodriguez with a solo home run. The Tigers had 14 hits on the day, including six doubles, while the Terriers were held to four hits. Reed Rohlman had three hits to lead Clemson.

The Terriers were struck out in order to begin the first inning. With two runners on and two outs, a double by Andrew Cox gave the Tigers a 2-0 lead. Wofford went in order in the top of the second and with two outs in the bottom of the second an RBI triple made it 3-0. A balk allowed a run to score before a fly ball ended the inning at 4-0.

After Wofford was retired in order in the top of the third inning, Clemson left one runner on base to end the third.
Brett Hash walked with two outs in the top of the fourth, but was stranded. The Tigers added a double in the bottom of the fourth with two outs and
Cody Miller doubled with one out in the top of the fifth, but neither advanced.

In the bottom of the fifth, the Tigers had runners at second and third with two outs before a fly ball ended the scoring chance.
Kody Ruedisili singled up the middle with one out in the top of the sixth. He stole second and a single up the middle by
Brett Hash made it a 4-1 game. Clemson led off the bottom of the sixth with a walk, but the runner was out at second base trying to advance on a wild pitch.

Wofford went in order in the top of the seventh and Clemson led off their half of the seventh with a double. A fly ball and a pair of strikeouts sent the game to the eighth inning.
Stone Pellegrino led off with a walk for the Terriers and
Dorien Jenkins came in to pinch run. With one out, Jenkins was caught stealing and a fly ball ended the top of the eighth.

The Tigers had a double to start the bottom of the eighth and an RBI single pushed the lead to 5-1. Another double added a run and an error on a sacrifice bunt allowed a run to score for a 7-1 score. With the bases loaded, a single plated two more runs for a 9-1 lead headed to the ninth. In the top of the ninth with two outs,
Brett Rodriguez hit a solo home run to left center. It was his first career hit for the Terriers.

Wofford pitcher
Matt Ellmyer (0-1) made his first career start and went 4.2 innings with four runs allowed on eight hits along with three strikeouts.
David Ehmen did not allow a hit in an inning.
Jake Hershman gave up one hit in two-thirds of an inning.
Reece Maniscalco worked an inning with three runs allowed on three hits and two strikeouts.
Merritt Huber gave up one run and
Jordan Accetta gave up one run on two hits in the final two-thirds of an inning.

Tyler Jackson (1-1) started for the Tigers and went seven innings with one run allowed on three hits as he struck out nine. Paul Campbell worked an inning with one strikeout. Ryan Miller struck out the two batters he faced. Jeremy Beasley gave up one run in the final third of an inning.

The Terriers return to Russell C. King Field on Friday at 5:00 p.m. against Pittsburgh, followed by a home game on Saturday against Wright State.
