LEXINGTON, S.C. – The Wofford College baseball team was defeated 5-2 by Charleston Southern on Tuesday night at Lexington County Baseball Stadium. The Bucs scored two runs in the second inning and added two runs in the sixth to build a 5-2 lead.

Wofford is 22-19 on the season, while Charleston Southern is 21-20 overall. The Terriers were held to eight hits in the game, including two each by
McClain Bradley,
Brett Hash and
Carson Waln. The Bucs were led by Nate Blanchard and Brandon Gragilla with three hits each, while the pitching staff struck out 17 batters.

The Bucs opened the game with a single, but a double play and ground ball ended the top of the first. With two outs in the bottom of the first,
Brett Hash singled and moved to second on a balk. A double to right center by
Carson Waln gave the Terriers a 1-0 lead. The lead-off batter for Charleston Southern in the second inning, Brandon Gragilla, hit a solo home run to tie the game. A single and error on a failed pick-off attempt were followed by an RBI single to give the Bucs a 2-1 lead in the middle of the second inning. Wofford was retired in order to end the second inning.

A single led off the third inning for Charleston Southern and with one out an RBI double made it a 3-1 game. A single had runners on the corners, but they were unable to advance. Wofford had runners at first and third with one out after singles by
Alex Malsch and
McClain Bradley. Bradley was picked off first base, but a single by
Brett Hash drove in Malsch to cut the lead to 3-2. The Bucs left a runner on second base in the top of the fourth inning.

The Terriers were retired in order to end the fourth inning. With one out in the top of the fifth, Charleston Southern had the bases loaded after a single, error and walk. A strikeout and ground out to first base ended the scoring threat.
Reed Massey led off the bottom of the fifth with a walk. A double play was followed by
Kody Ruedisili reaching on an error, but a strikeout ended the inning.

In the top of the sixth with two outs, a Buc was hit by a pitch. Aaron Miller then cleared the fence in left field with a two-run homer for a 5-2 advantage.
Carson Waln singled with one out in the bottom of the sixth, but was unable to advance. Charleston Southern left a pair of runners on base in the top of the seventh after a single and a walk. Wofford was retired in order to end the seventh inning. The Bucs stranded one runner in the top of the eighth after a single.

Kody Ruedisili led off the bottom of the eighth with a single and
McClain Bradley followed with a single. After a pitching change, three straight strikeouts ended the eighth inning. The Bucs were retired in order in the top of the ninth and the Terriers went down with three straight strikeouts to end the game.

Chris Sheehan (3-1) started for the Terriers and threw 4.1 innings with three runs allowed on eight hits, plus he recorded five strikeouts.
Cole Bradley faced two batters and
Reece Maniscalco went 1.2 innings with two runs allowed on one hit, along with two strikeouts.
David Ehmen gave up one hit and
Merritt Huber recorded a pair of outs.
Jordan Accetta went 1.1 innings with one hit allowed and three strikeouts.
Matt Ellmyer retired the side in the ninth inning.

Charleston Southern starter Evan Nations (1-1) went 2.1 innings with two runs allowed on four hits and five strikeouts. Ryan Stoudemire threw 1.2 innings with one hit allowed and a strikeout. Adam Andrews worked two-thirds of an inning without allowing a hit. Daniel Johnson went one and a third innings with one hit allowed and three strikeouts. Seth Owens threw an inning with two strikeouts. Jamison Mobbs gave up two hits. Will Hartsell struck out the three batters he faced in an inning. Cody Smith struck out the side in the ninth.

Wofford will begin a three game series at East Tennessee State University on Friday at 6:00 p.m. The Terriers only have two home dates remaining, a single game on May 12 and a doubleheader on May 14, against Mercer.
