SPARTANBURG, S.C. - The Wofford volleyball team fell at home against Furman on Wednesday night, dropping the contest in straight sets.
Errors did the Terriers in, being edged out 25-20 in sets one and two before falling 25-18 in set three.
Lorissa King registered her fifth-straight match with 16 or more assists, totaling 16 against the Paladins.
The two sides, which had identical SoCon records entering Wednesday, looked evenly matched to start set one until Furman reeled off eight points in a row to make the score 12-7 in favor of the Paladins. After Furman committed three errors and
Alex Holland sent home a kill, Wofford was within two (16-14), but would not inch any closer, dropping the first set 25-20.
The Terriers came out firing in the second set, taking a 5-1 lead courtesy of four kills. After Wofford took a 17-14 lead, Furman called a timeout that sparked a 5-0 run to put the Paladins ahead by two.
Catie Cronister would record back-to-back kills to knot the set up at 19 apiece, but Furman took six of the next seven points to jump out to a 2-0 lead.
Aiming for force a third set, the Terriers matched the Paladins point-for-point to start the third, but a Wofford error ignited another 5-0 run for the Paladins, taking a lead they would not relinquish.
Wofford now falls to 9-11 overall (2-5 SoCon), but will aim for redemtion on Saturday, hosting UNCG at 4 p.m.
