Men's Soccer Tops VMI 3-1 to Finish SoCon Play

LEXINGTON, Va. - Three different Terriers scored for the second consecutive time this season, as the Wofford men's soccer team wrapped up SoCon play with a 3-1 win over VMI on Tuesday afternoon. The win moves Wofford to an even 3-3 in conference play and 4-10-1 overall on the season.

The Terriers came out the gates on the attack, finding a pair of shots on goal from Lucas Altman and Rocky Antwi before Ade Akinjogbin would net in Wofford's first goal of the day in the ninth minute. Rocky Antwi fired a shot that a VMI defender blocked, however, Akinjogbin was there to finish the rebound to give the Terriers the early 1-0 lead. Wofford would go on to control the remainder of the first half on the attack, firing 10 shots to the Keydets one in the period. The Terriers would then find more scoring efforts from Altman, Saviour Anyagri, and Andreas Suri before Chandler Compton, in the 41st minute, would connect on a Connor Donohue corner kick for a header to extend Wofford's lead to 2-0 heading into the break.

The Terriers took the corner kick advantage in the first half, 5-2.

The Terriers remained persistent on the attack in the second half, though, the Keydets came out the intermission playing more active as well. Both teams played steady throughout the period, with Wofford seeing shots from Compton, Ben Nickol, and Zach Aversano, up until VMI would put themselves on the board on a shot from about 25-yards out in the 82nd minute. The Terriers responded with a goal of their own just three minutes later in the 85th minute, as Brett Goodman capitalized on a loose ball in front of the net, knocking it in for Wofford's third and final goal of the match. The Terriers would go on to hold their ground over the ensuing four minutes to take the win over the Keydets at the end of regulation, 3-1.

Wofford dominated the match, outshooting the Keydets 18-7, while also taking the corner kick advantage, 8-4.

Brett Goodman added his second goal of the year, while Chandler Compton and Ade Akinjogbin both scored their first goals of the season, Akinjogbin's being his first as a Terrier. Additionally, Connor Donohue and Rocky Antwi respectively added their fourth and second assists of the year in the match.

The Terriers also saw efforts from Ben Nickol, Zach Aversano, and Lucas Altman with two shots each, both of Altman's being on goal, while Savior Anyagri, Walt Stevens, and Andreas Suri each took one shot on the day.

Grant Wollam earned the win for the Terriers with four saves in the match.

Next, the Terriers will finish the regular season on Saturday, October 27, as they host crosstown rival USC Upstate on Senior Night for a 7 p.m. kick off at Snyder Field.
