ATHENS, Ga. – In the first road game of the season, the Wofford College baseball team was defeated 5-0 by Georgia at Foley Field on Tuesday. The Bulldogs had three runs in the third inning and added two runs in the eighth inning to secure the win.

Wofford is now 3-5 on the season, while Georgia is 8-1. The Terriers had hits by
Mack Nathanson and
Brett Rodriguez. Four Bulldogs had two hits each, while Mitchell Webb drove in two runs.

With two out in the top of the first,
Mack Nathanson was hit by a pitch before a strikeout ended the Wofford half. Georgia had their first hit with one out in the bottom of the first. After a walk and strikeout, a fly ball ended the opening inning. Both teams were retired in order in the second inning.
Brett Rodriguez walked with two outs in the top of the third inning, but was unable to advance.

The Bulldogs led off the bottom of the third with an infield single and the runner advanced on a sacrifice bunt. Back-to-back RBI doubles gave Georgia a 2-0 lead and with two outs another double made it 3-0.
Mack Nathanson singled for the Terriers to lead off the fourth inning, however a double play and strikeout ended the top half. In the bottom of the fourth, the Bulldogs had a single with two outs before a fly ball ended the inning.

Colin Davis was hit by a pitch to begin the fifth inning. A double play and ground out ended the top half for the Terriers. The Bulldogs had two runners on base after walks in the bottom of the fifth, but a fielder's choice and ground out ended the frame. Both teams were retired in order in the sixth inning and Wofford went in order in the top of the seventh. With two outs in the bottom of the seventh, the Bulldogs added a double. On a single, the lead runner was thrown out at home to end the inning.

Wofford was retired in order in the top of the eighth inning. Georgia led off the bottom of the eighth with back-to-back singles. A sacrifice bunt moved the runners into scoring position and a double drove in both runs for a 5-0 lead.
Brett Rodriguez added an infield single with one out in the top of the ninth, but a double play ended the game.

Clay Schwaner (0-2) started for the Terriers and went five innings with three runs allowed on six hits. He struck out four batters and walked three.
Ty Reginelli did not allow a hit in an inning on the mound.
Adam Scott went an inning with two hits allowed and a strikeout.
Tyler McGuigan allowed two runs on two hits in a third of an inning.
David Ehmen gave up one hit in two thirds of an inning.

Georgia pitcher Tim Elliott (1-0) went the first six innings with one hit allowed, one walk, and seven strikeouts. Ryan Webb did not allow a hit in two innings with two strikeouts. C.J. Smith worked the ninth with one hit allowed.

The Terriers will host Gardner-Webb on Wednesday at 5:00 p.m. at Russell C. King Field. Penn will make the trip for a three-game weekend series beginning Friday at 5:00 p.m. Â
