SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Wofford women's basketball fell to Western Carolina 68-62 on Thursday evening. The Catamounts led the game for over 27 minutes and were able to withstand a late fourth quarter run from Wofford to secure the win. The loss marks three in a row for the Terriers and moves Wofford to 10-15 overall and 3-7 in the Southern Conference. Â

Wofford opened the game with two early buckets and a free throw from
Da'Ja Green to take a 6-2 lead just over a minute into the game. The Terriers then went scoreless for a span of four-plus minutes which allowed Western Carolina to take a 9-6 lead at the first media timeout. Despite struggling from the field, Wofford went on a 4-2 run prior to the Catamounts knocking down a three as time expired. Western Carolina led the Terriers 14-10 after one quarter thanks to three baskets from downtown. As a team Wofford shot just 4-16 (25%) from the field over the first team minutes while
Cairo Booker paced the squad with two points and three boards.

The shooting struggles continued for Wofford in the second quarter as Western Carolina went on a 7-2 run over the first two minutes to stretch the lead to 21-12. Green then took control of the game over for the Terriers scoring four straight baskets including two from distance putting Wofford on top 22-21 with three minutes to play in the half. The teams traded baskets to end the quarter as Western Carolina regained the lead at the half, 26-25. Green led the Terriers at the half with 12 points, four rebounds and three assists at the break.

Western Carolina opened the third quarter with a 15-7 run to stretch the lead to nine at 41-32 with just under three minutes to play in the period. The Catamounts and Terriers traded buckets to end the quarter as Western Carolina led 45-38 with ten minutes to play. Green had eight points in the quarter to lead the Terriers, giving her 21 for the game. As a team, Wofford knocked down three triples in the quarter and shot 5-13 (38%) from the field.

Leading by seven after three quarters, Western Carolina had its eyes set on picking up its first conference victory of the season. Despite trailing, Wofford did not give in as the team went on a 15-4 run to take a two point lead with just over four minutes to play. The Catmounts stayed resilient and ended the game on a 15-9 run that was capped off by two clutch free throws from Judith Martin Ruiz.

Despite the loss, Wofford shot 24-59 (40%) from the field and 8-22 (36%) from downtown.
Da'Ja Green led the Terriers with 34 points, four rebounds and seven assists. Green was involved in 19 of Wofford's 24 (12 FG's and 7 Assists) baskets while playing all 40 minutes.
Emily Ryan added nine points on three long balls as
Cairo Booker finished with eight points and 10 boards.

Wofford will return to the court on Saturday when the Terriers host UNCG on Senior Day in the final home game of the season. Two Terriers will be honored on Saturday,

Emily Ryan.
