SPARTANBURG, S.C. – On Tuesday night, the Wofford College baseball team picked up a 5-3 win over Winthrop at Russell C. King Field. The Terriers took a 4-0 lead after four innings, but the Eagles cut the lead to 4-3 in the middle of the seventh inning. Wofford added a run in the bottom of the seventh for the final margin.

Wofford is now 17-9 on the season, while Winthrop is 12-14 overall. The loss ended a seven-game winning streak by the Eagles. The Terriers were led by
Colin Davis with two hits and two RBIs.
Alec Cargin added a two-run homer. Hunter Lipscomb led the Eagles with two hits and a pair of RBIs.

The Eagles left one runner on base in the top of the first and the Terriers had two hits in the bottom of the first inning. Winthrop had a single in the second inning, but the runner was stranded.
Max McDougald walked with two outs in the bottom of the second and moved to second base on a failed pick-off attempt.
Alec Cargin then cleared the fence in left field giving Wofford a 2-0 lead. It was the third home run of the season for Cargin.

Winthrop had two runners stranded in the top of the third after a walk and fielding error.
Colin Davis led off the bottom of the third with a solo home run to left center. It was his fourth home run of the season and Wofford had a 3-0 lead. The Terriers added two singles in the inning, but both runners were left on base. The Eagles were retired in order in the top of the fourth inning. With two outs in the bottom of the fourth,
Alex Malsch had an infield single and
Colin Davis followed with an RBI double as Wofford built a 4-0 lead.

Both teams were retired in order in the fifth inning. Winthrop had two runners in scoring position after a single and a walk. A single with two outs by Hunter Lipscomb drove in both runners to cut the lead to 4-2. The Eagles left two runners on base to end the top half of the fifth.
Brett Rodriguez led off the bottom of the fifth with a walk. He stole second and moved to third on a fly ball, but was stranded after a strikeout.

Winthrop opened the seventh inning with a walk and a single. A sacrifice bunt advanced the runners and a sacrifice fly made it a 4-3 game. A fly ball left a runner stranded at third base for the Eagles.
Colin Davis led off the bottom of the seventh by taking advantage of a fielding error and throwing error to reach third base.
McClain Bradley walked and then stole second base, while a walk to
Mack Nathanson loaded the bases with nobody out. A sacrifice fly by
Cody Miller added a run for a 5-3 lead, but a fielder's choice resulted in the second out at home plate. A strikeout ended the seventh inning with two runners left on base.

The Eagles were retired in order in the top of the eighth on six pitches. Wofford went in order in the bottom of the eighth inning. After a pair of strikeouts to begin the top of the ninth inning, an Eagle reached first on a walk. A ground out to the pitcher ended the game.

Clay Schwaner (1-2) started for the Terriers and went five innings with one hit allowed, along with four strikeouts.
Ty Reginelli went two-thirds of an inning and allowed two runs on two hits while striking out two batters.
Anthony Garcia worked 1.1 innings with one run allowed on one hit.
Jake Hershman earned his third save of the season by going the final 2.0 innings without allowing a hit and striking out three.

Winthrop starting pitcher Dalton Whitaker (0-1) threw two innings with two runs allowed on three hits. Colten Rendon went an inning with one run allowed on three hits. Jason Crumley worked an inning with one run allowed on two hits. Daniel Willcutt went 1.1 innings without allowing a hit and striking out two. Bryan Petta faced one batter and had one out. Carson Gregory worked 2.1 innings with one unearned run allowed and three strikeouts.
