SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Down 8-5 in the bottom of the ninth inning, the Wofford College baseball team rallied and scored four runs for a 9-8 win over Presbyterian College on Wednesday night at Russell C. King Field. The Terriers took a lead by scoring four runs in the second inning, but the Blue Hose battled back and added two runs in the fourth and three in the fifth to regain the advantage. After the Blue Hose were retired in order in the top of the ninth with an 8-5 lead, the Terriers had four hits in the bottom of the ninth which included a walk-off double by
Lawson Hill to earn the win.

Wofford is now 30-16 on the season and Presbyterian is 13-34. The Terriers won two of the three games played against the Blue Hose this season. The Terriers were led by
Lawson Hill with two hits and two RBIs, with
McClain Bradley adding two hits. Presbyterian had eleven hits in the game, led by Connor Slagill with two hits and a pair of RBIs.

Both teams had a single in the first inning. The Blue Hose got on the board first with a solo home run by Nick Wise with one out in the top of the second. With one out in the bottom of the second, back-to-back doubles by
Cody Miller and
Lawson Hill tied the game at 1-1. A single by
Max McDougald drove in Hill for a 2-1 lead.
Alex Malsch bunted and was safe at first due to a throwing error that allowed McDougald to score to make it 3-1. Malsch stole second and third base, then took home on a wild pitch for a 4-1 advantage.

In the top of the third, a solo home run by Jonathan White cut the lead to 4-2. The Blue Hose left one on base to end the top half.
McClain Bradley struck out to begin the bottom of the third, but reached first on a wild pitch. He stole second and scored on a double by
Andrew Orzel for a 5-2 game. With one out in the top of the third, a double and single gave the Blue Hose runners on the corners. Three wild pitches allowed two runs to score to make it a 5-4 score. The Terriers were retired in order to end the fourth inning.

The Blue Hose had the bases loaded with two outs in the top of the fifth after a hit by pitch, single and walk. A wild pitch allowed a run to score to tie the game at 5-5. The bases were loaded again after a walk and a single to left field drove in two runs for a 7-5 lead for the Blue Hose. A single by
McClain Bradley and a hit by pitch to
Mack Nathanson, along with a couple stolen bases, had runners in scoring position before a fly ball ended the inning. A double began the sixth inning and the runner moved to third on a wild pitch. A single with two outs drove in the run for an 8-5 advantage. Wofford was retired in order to end the sixth inning. The Blue Hose had a runner reach on an error with two outs and the on a single to left field the runner was out at home to end the top of the seventh.

Alex Malsch was hit by a pitch to lead off the bottom of the seventh and
McClain Bradley was hit by a pitch with one out. A strikeout and caught stealing ended the seventh inning. The Blue Hose left one runner on base in the top of the eighth inning and
Andrew Orzel walked to lead off the bottom of the eighth.
Cody Miller was hit by a pitch and
Lawson Hill walked to load the bases. A strikeout and ground out into a double play ended the scoring opportunity.

In the top of the ninth, the Blue Hose were retired in order. Wofford had infield singles from
Alex Malsch and
Brett Rodriguez to begin the bottom of the ninth. With one out, a double by
Mack Nathanson drove in both runners to make it an 8-7 game.
Alec Cargin was hit by a pitch with two outs. A double to right field by
Lawson Hill scored Nathanson and Cargin to give Wofford the 9-8 victory.

Clay Schwaner started for the Terriers and threw 3.1 innings with four runs allowed on five hits, along with three strikeouts.
Ty Reginelli walked one batter.
Jake Dippold threw 1.1 innings with three runs allowed on one hit while striking out two.
Jake Hershman worked 3.1 innings with one run allowed on five hits and a strikeout.
Matt Ellmyer (6-0) retired the side in the ninth with one strikeout.

Presbyterian starter Eric Miles went five innings and allowed five runs on six hits while striking out three. Maxx Harpalani worked 1.1 innings and did not allow a hit. Ryan Hedrick did not allow a hit in two-thirds of an inning with one strikeout. Greyson Stoneking (0-1) went 1.2 innings and gave up four runs on four hits, along with one strikeout.

Wofford will begin a Southern Conference road series at Samford on Friday night at 7:00 p.m. ET. Â
