WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Wofford volleyball team picked up its first win of the 2018 season, sweeping Bowling Green on Saturday to conclude the Purdue Reamer Club Xtra Tournament. The Terriers, who were led by
Colleen Reilly's 11 kills, took down the Falcons 25-19, 25-23, 25-20.
Senior
Taylor Gill led Wofford with 28 digs while
Catie Cronister totaled seven digs and seven kills in the victory.
Lorissa King and
Kara Shacklette proved to be impact players in the contest, with King tallying 22 assists and Shacklette racking up seven kills to go along with five blocks.
Courtesy of a pair of kills from Reilly, the Terriers took an early 4-1 lead over the Falcons. Trailing 16-10, Bowling Green rallied to cut the deficit to three before Shacklette recorded back-to-back kills to propel Wofford to the 25-19 set victory.
In the second set, the two sides traded points early until a Bowling Green attack error and a kill from
Alex Holland put the Terriers up 13-8. Holding a 21-14 lead, Wofford looked primed to cruise to a set-two win, but the Falcons rallied to take nine out of the next 12 points to make the score 24-23 before Cronister recorded a kill to seal the set for the Terriers.
In the third and final set, it was Wofford who had to overcome a 16-13 deficit, reeling off seven points in-a-row after a timeout to take a 20-16 lead, later clinching the first victory of the season via a kill from Cronister to cap off the match with a 25-20 set-three victory.
Up next, the Terriers travel to Atlanta, Georgia, to face Tulane University in the Hyatt Regency Tournament on Thursday.
