ATLANTA, Ga. - Colleen Reilly was named to the Hyatt Regency All-Tournament team as Wofford volleyball capped off the tournament with wins over Alabama State and South Alabama on Friday.
The Terriers defeated the Hornets in straight sets (30-28, 25-17, 26-24) on Friday afternoon before topping South Alabama in four sets (25-17, 19-25, 25-17, 25-22) on Friday evening.
Averaging nearly 11 kills per match, Reilly combined for 43 kills, 22 total blocks, 19 block assists and three service aces as Wofford went 3-1 in Atlanta. Wofford boasted a balanced attack all tournament long, getting big offensive contributions from
Catie Cronister (54 kills) and
Bijonae Jones (39 kills).
In the first match on Friday, Wofford faced match point three times in the opening set but tied the score at 25, 26, and 27 respectively, before a Hornets service error set up a Cronister kill to give the Terriers a 30-28 set victory.
In set two, the teams were knotted up at 14-14 when Wofford ripped off four points in a row to take an 18-14 lead, taking seven of nine points down the stretch to go up two sets to none. Much like the first, the third set was a nail biter. With the Terriers clinging to a lead for the majority of the set, South Alabama was able to tie the score at 24-24, but
Kelly Bossert delivered a pair of kills to clinch the match for Wofford.
In the second match, Wofford would trail early against South Alabama, but tied the first set at 10, scoring seven unanswered to take a commanding lead and cruise to the 25-17 set victory. In set number two, the teams traded points and were deadlocked at 13-13, until the Jaguars extended their lead to five at 20-15, ultimately taking set two 25-19.
In the third set, Wofford took an early 5-4 lead and would never trail from that point on, getting a pair of Jones kills late to take another 25-17 set victory. The fourth and final set was hotly contested, featuring 10 ties. With the score 17-17, the Terriers would finally create some breathing room, jumping out to a four-point advantage and sealing the match with a kill from Cronister.
Up next, the Terriers travel to Orlando, Florida, to compete in the UCF Challenge on Friday and Saturday.
