The Terriers fall to 2-3 in conference

GREENVILLE, S.C. – 25 points by Furman in the fourth quarter, paired with a cold shooting day, would push the Paladins past Wofford, 63-50, at Timmons Arena on Saturday afternoon. Both squads came into the contest with identical records, though, the loss drops Wofford to 2-3 in conference and 10-10 overall, while Furman moves to 3-2 and 11-9 overall.

Wofford shot just 19-for-58 (32.8%) from the floor for the contest, as the Terriers struggled from three, shooting an unfavorable 26.3 percent (5-19 3FG) from beyond the arc. The Terriers created 14 Furman turnovers, however, the Paladins took a double-digit edge in rebounds over Wofford, 49-32.

Junior Chloe Wanink led the Terriers with 19 points on 50 percent shooting (7-14 FG) from the floor, including 3-for-5 (60.0%) from beyond the arc. Wanink also added five rebounds, an assist, and a steal. Junior Cairo Booker recorded 13 points, seven rebounds, and three assists, while sophomore Da'Ja Green followed with nine points and three rebounds.

Sophomore Jamari McDavid grabbed 10 rebounds, in addition to five points and two assists, as senior Marissa Bayer rounds out the scoring for Wofford with four points and two blocks.

A Da'Ja Green 3-pointer and Cairo Booker jumper would start the game off for the Terriers. Scores from Marissa Bayer and Chloe Wanink would make the score 13-9 before a Furman layup and and-1 gave the Paladins a one-point lead, 14-13, at 3:31. Furman's Le'Jzae Davidson scored the next six points for the Paladins, though, Green would answer with another three to trail by two, 20-18, at the end of the quarter.

Both teams held each other scoreless for the first four minutes of the second, up until the Paladins' Celena Taborn would knock down a top of the key 3-pointer at the 5:59 mark, extending their lead to five, 23-18. After a series of scoreless trips up and down the floor, the Paladins would hit another three to end the half leading 27-19, as Wofford's lone point in the quarter came from a Jamari McDavid free throw at 2:08.

Both teams showcased their stingy defense in the first half, as the Terriers shot just 8-of-32 (25.0%) in the first half, while holding the Paladins to 33.3 percent (11-33 FG) from the floor. However, Furman made the Terriers pay from beyond the arc, connecting on 3-of-10 (30.0%) attempts. Da'Ja Green led the way for Wofford with eight points in the first half.

Furman would push a 10-point lead (30-20) 1:12 into the half, though, five points from Chloe Wanink would cut the margin to five by the 7:23 mark, 30-25. Wanink then went on to cash another three, as two Cairo Booker free throws would narrow the deficit down to two (32-30) just under the halfway mark. The Paladins couldn't surpass a four-point spread, as Wanink and Booker would combine for eight more points within the last two minutes of the third to knot the score at 38-38 heading into the final 10 minutes of play.

The Paladins bounced back, opening the quarter with a three and steal for a fast break layup to reclaim a five-point lead, 43-38. A 5-0 Furman run, capped by a Le'Jzae Davidson 3-pointer, ensued, though, Wanink would break the Terriers' silence after with a jumper at the 6:55 mark. Furman would rally behind another Davidson three and Tierra Hodges and-1 to give the Paladins their largest double-digit lead of the game at 15 points, 61-46, with 2:22 left. Late Booker and Jamari McDavid finishes cut the deficit, however, Davidson free throws would go on to end the game in Furman's favor, 63-50.
