Tomlin, Lutz Net Double-Double Career-Highs in 110-47 Rout over Southern Wesleyan

Six Terriers scored in double figures with a plethora of career-highs

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Freshmen Alexis Tomlin and Niyah Lutz both earned career-highs with double-doubles on Thursday afternoon, as the Wofford women's basketball team wrapped up the non-conference slate of their schedule with a 110-47 win against Southern Wesleyan. Six Terriers scored in double figures, as the Terriers remain undefeated (6-0) at Richardson Indoor Stadium. Wofford moves to 8-7 overall heading into conference play next week.

The contest marks the fourth time this season the Terriers have scored 100+ points, as the 2018-19 team has become the first in program history to do so.

Freshman Jackie Carman led the Terriers with a game-high 21 points (8-19 FG, 5-13 3FG), season-high eight rebounds, two steals, and an assist. Classmate Niyah Lutz followed with career-high numbers, earning her first career double-double with 20 points on 9-of-14 shooting, including 2-for-3 from beyond the arc, and 10 rebounds. Junior Cairo Booker also notched a career-high with 20 points, seven rebounds, and six assists.

Freshman Alexis Tomlin net her first career double-double in her first career start, scoring 11 points and grabbing 10 boards in a season-high 21 minutes, while sophomore Jamari McDavid (season-high 18 points, seven rebounds, four steals) and freshman MaryMartha Turner (10 points, three rebounds, two assists, two steals) round out the double-figure scorers on the day.

The Terriers also saw efforts from redshirt-junior Chloe Wanink, with eight points and six rebounds in 19 minutes of play, and sophomore Da'Ja Green, who matched her career-high in assists with 12.

Wofford got things going right away, jumping out to 20-8 run by the first media timeout at the 3:51 mark. Jackie Carman would drill a three immediately out the break, sparking an 11-0 run that saw buckets from Da'Ja Green, Niyah Lutz, MaryMartha Turner, and Carman to end the first quarter up 34-8.

The Terriers sped the pace of the game up in the second quarter, as 16 of their 20 points in the frame came from fast break opportunities. Wofford saw balanced scoring from McDavid, Carman, Cairo Booker, and Alexis Tomlin to take a 58-20 lead at the end of the first half.

The second half was more of the same, as Wofford would continue its dominance shooting 48 percent (20-42 FG) from the field in the half to cruise to the 110-47 victory by the end of regulation.

Wofford went 44-for-87 (50.6%) from the field, including 9-of-26 (34.6%) from 3-point range, for the contest. The Terriers held Southern Wesleyan to 18-of-60 (30%) shooting from the field, while outrebounding the Warriors, 58-22.

Additionally, Wofford forced 22 Southern Wesleyan turnovers, while assisting on 24 makes.

Wofford men's and women's basketball both reached the 110 point mark on January 3. Only two other schools have had both their men's and women's basketball teams hit the 110+ mark at any point this season – Lamar and Hampton.

Next, the Terriers will open Southern Conference play, hosting Western Carolina next Thursday, January 10 for a 6:00 p.m. start at Richardson Indoor Stadium.
