NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Trailing by a pair of goals twice in the second half, Adrian Roseth registered his first career hat trick as the Wofford men's soccer team rallied to tie the Belmont Bruins 3-3 in its SoCon opener on Saturday night.
Roseth, a freshman from Haugesund, Norway, had himself a career game, scoring all three Terrier goals in the second half to power Wofford to its first tie of the season. Roseth was a force all night, totaling a game-high seven shots with five of them being on frame. Sam Ross, Brandon Oddy and Lucas Altman all registered scoring chances, but could not find the back of the net as the two teams finished the game with three goals apiece.
On the year, the Terriers are now 2-8-1 (0-0-1 SoCon) and return home to host Mercer on Tuesday at 7 p.m. Each team totaled 17 shots, with Belmont edging out Wofford in shots on goal (10 to 9) and corner kicks (5 to 4).
The Terriers looked to strike first, earning a corner kick at the 7:23 mark but Belmont fended off the attack, striking in the 17th minute when Brett Royster found Jordan Dozzi. Oddy aimed to equalize in the 31st but came up short. With time winding down in the half, the Bruins would double their lead with a goal from Niccolo Dagnoni.
Wofford pushed the pace to start the second, pulling one back when Oddy found Roseth who buried his third goal of the season to make the contest a one-score game. Belmont responded with a trio of shots before Dagnoni once again gave the Bruins a two-goal advantage.
After chances from both teams, Roseth broke free and found the back of the net to make the score 3-2 in the 72nd minute. With time winding down, Ross played a ball into Roseth who drilled his second goal of the game to knot the score up at 3-3 in the 82nd minute. The Terriers continued to attack, registering three more shots before the 90-minute mark.
Each side registered shots early in the first overtime, with Belmont pressing late. After the Terriers turned away the scoring chances, they came out shooting in the second overtime, getting chances from Austin Tuggle and getting a corner in the first three minutes. Just two minutes later, Oddy fired a shot low and on frame, but goalkeeper Nicolo Dini was there to collect the save. With time dwindling down, it was Grant Wollam who came up big, turning away a Belmont shot in the waning seconds to close out the game 3-3.
