Box Score Greensboro, NC – Wofford's men's soccer team suffered its first conference loss Saturday night, as they fell to UNCG. The Spartans scored once in the first half and added two more in the second for a 3-0 final.
Wofford is now 3-9-1 overall (1-1-1 SoCon) and UNCG moves to 5-7-1 (3-0 SoCon). The Terriers were able to fire seven shots towards the net and had four corners, two in each half.
Grant Wollam made four saves and
Lucas Altman had the lone shot on goal for Wofford.
UNCG would take the lead in the 11
th minute as Casey Penland would head in a goal coming directly from a corner. Five minutes later, it was Wofford's
Lucas Altman who took aim and tested the Spartans keeper. A few moments later,
Eduardo Velazco would make a 40-yard run from his defensive position to have a shot from just outside the box, but his shot would run right of the post.
In the 54
th minute, Penland would score his second goal after an initial shot went off the crossbar.
Grant Wollam would have to stay busy as just a minute later he was forced to make two saves to keep it a two-goal game.
With 15 minutes to play,
Young Perry would have a shot towards the net, only to have it cleared off the line. As the momentum seemed to be shifting in the Terriers favor, UNCG would go down the field and make it 3-0 by a goal from Cameron Fowler.
Wofford returns to Snyder Field on Tuesday, October 22 as they defend home turf against VMI. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m.
