Women’s Soccer Season Ends After Loss to Furman

Greenville, SC – The Wofford women's soccer team's season came to an end this afternoon after a 3-0 loss to Furman.

The Terriers finish their season with a 7-12 record, which is their best since 2013 when they went 8-5-6. They went 3-6 in conference play which matches their mark set in 2014.
First-year coach Emily Grant led her squad to its first SoCon Tournament win since the 2015 campaign.

The first half saw the Terriers be outshot 15-1 by the Paladins, but the game stayed scoreless going into halftime through tough defense and excellent goalkeeping. A flurry of shots by Furman in the 12th minute saw Maria Mon make her first save of the game, and a goal-line clearance by the Terriers defense. Mon would continue to make save after save in the half, foiling the Paladins onslaught of pressure.

The Paladins broke through in the 57th minute to give them a 1-0 lead. A second goal would come three minutes later as Furman would double their lead. Strong goalkeeping by Mon and a hard-working defense kept Wofford in the contest. Unfortunately, a third goal would come in the 63rd minute and that would seal the game.

Wofford sent four shots towards goal, but none would find the target and test Furman keeper, Kellsey Weaver. Mon had a career-high 14 saves throughout the match, seven in each half, which is tied for third most all-time by a Wofford goalkeeper.
