Box Score Greenville, S.C. – The Wofford men's soccer team ended their season with a 3-0 defeat to the Mercer Bears in the quarterfinals of the SoCon tournament.
The Terriers were under pressure early as goalkeeper
Grant Wollam had to come up with a huge save in the 4
th minute, diving to his right to keep the ball out of the net. Mercer would break the deadlock in the 11
th minute with a goal from Trevor Martineau. Wofford's
Lucas Altman had a shot off a corner, but it was blocked and ricocheted out for a throw-in. Just before the halftime whistle, Mercer would double their lead making the score 2-0.
Wofford would go down 3-0 just three minutes into the second half. The Terriers were almost able to get a goal back when
Adrian Roseth and
Maceon Urueta each had a shot, but the ball never crossed the goal-line and the deficit remained 3-0. With under 20 minutes to go, Roseth had two more of his shots foiled by the Mercer keeper. Eduardo Velasco had the chance for a consolation goal in the 89
th minute but was unable to beat JR Derose.
Adrian Roseth had a game-high five shots, four of which were on target. Wofford had 13 shots in total, adding five corners, and five saves from
Grant Wollam.
