Terriers hit 19 threes, defeat North Greenville 112-66

Bigelow scores career-high 28 points in win

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Wofford men's basketball team knocked down 19 shots from 3-point range and freshman Isaiah Bigelow scored a career-high 28 points as the Terriers capped off their three-game homestand with a 112-66 win over North Greenville University at Jerry Richardson Indoor Stadium on Friday night.

The Terriers, who shot 66.1 percent from the floor and 59.4 percent from 3-point range (19-32), set season-highs in made field goals (39-59), field goal percentage, assists (27) and steals (10).

"Our goal coming into the game was to get 20-plus assists," McAuley said. "With our limited practice time this week due to exams, I was really proud tonight."

A total of six Wofford players scored in double figures for the first time since 2016 (UVA Wise), as Wofford eclipsed 100 points for the first time since its overtime victory against Samford (1/24/19) last season. Tray Hollowell tied his career-high with 17 points, while Messiah Jones scored 17, Nathan Hoover had 14 and both Chevez Goodwin and Donovan Theme-Love scored 11.

"Our two redshirt freshman were 8-for-9 from the field and 9-for-11 and they just need to be themselves, and when they are they are pretty good," said McAuley of Jones and Bigelow. "On the offensive end, they've got an unbelievable ceiling as we've seen here, so we are excited about their futures."

Extending its win streak to four, Wofford now sits at 6-4 on the season, traveling to Chapel Hill for a matchup with the Tar Heels (No. 17/16) on Sunday at 4 p.m. The game can be seen on the ACC Network and heard on the Learfield IMG Radio Network.

Getting his first start in place of Storm Murphy (day-to-day), Hollowell came out firing, knocking down a pair of 3-pointers to give Wofford a 13-6 lead just four minutes into the contest. Theme-Love stepped in off the bench, scoring five points and feeding Jones to make the score 20-11.

Goodwin began to get into the mix scoring in the lane and feeding Jones to push the lead to 13. The Terriers continued to move the ball, setting up Bigelow, who was 9-for-11 from the field, and Hollowell each for a pair of treys that made the advantage 23, taking a 64-31 lead into half.

"There was a moment in the first half where the second unit came in with guys like Donovan, and Tray and they were sharing the ball like I love to see," McAuley said. "It's a good feeling when you got teammates doing that."

Hoover was locked in to start the second, scoring the first nine points for Wofford. Jones swiped his fourth steal of the game and scored a pair of layups as the Terriers went ahead 78-44. From here, Bigelow, who went 7-for-8 from downtown, took over the half, knocking down four 3-pointers in the first 10 minutes of the second half.

"My teammates were firing me up and it felt great," Bigelow said. "There's nothing better than getting out there and having fun so that's why I love to play and there's nothing better than winning so it was great."

Larson would knock down Wofford's 18th three of the night with just under three minutes to play, with Zion Richardson connecting on the program-record 19th made trey at the two-minute mark as the Terriers claimed 112-66 victory heading into their showdown with the Tar Heels in two days.

"Our guys are excited as any team would be to play a storied program like that," McAuley said of Sunday's matchup at North Carolina. "We've got about six guys from that unforgettable deal two years ago so some guys know what it's going to take. It's going to be a challenge for us and we have the most respect for their program, but we're looking forward to it."
