Women's Tennis Earns 4-3 Victory at Presbyterian

CLINTON, S.C. – The Wofford women's tennis team picked up their fifth straight victory on Sunday afternoon, defeating the Presbyterian Blue Hose, 4-3, at the Templeton Tennis Courts. The doubles tandem of sophomore Kay Kluska and freshman Lilie Steryous earned a crucial comeback win to secure the doubles point early on, as sophomore Jenna Vroman would clinch the win for the Wofford down the stretch to move the Terriers' record to 8-1 overall.

Doubles play came down to the No. 2 court, as Wofford and Presbyterian split wins in No. 1 and No. 3 doubles to start the day.

Cassidy Hicks and Jenna Vroman (No. 1) would get things started for the Terriers, as the pair picked up their sixth doubles win of the year with a commanding 6-1 win over Sydney Patton and Jessica Leeman.

Presbyterian's duo of Beth Taylor and Katie Thompson then answered with a win on the No. 3 court over Lauren Joch and Liz Massie to shift the focus to No. 2 doubles.

Kay Kluska and Lilie Steryous found themselves down early, 5-2, to Tracy Johnson and Samantha Calais on the No. 2 court. The duo, however, showcased their resilience, coming back to win five games to earn their sixth doubles win of the season in dramatic fashion (7-6), granting Wofford the 1-0 lead.

The doubles point proved to be pivotal, as Wofford and Presbyterian split singles with three wins each, though, the early 1-0 advantage gave the Terriers the edge in the long run.

Lauren Joch added her fourth straight win in No. 5 singles, 6-1, 6-2, over Leeman to hold a 2-0 lead at the start of singles play. The Blue Hose retaliated with a win on the No. 2 court, as Tracy Johnson handed senior Cassidy Hicks her first singles loss of the season in a competitive 6-4, 6-3 match.

Freshman Lilie Steryous would answer for the Terriers, holding on for a hard-fought victory in No. 3 singles, 7-5, 7-6, over Samantha Calais for her fifth straight win, though, Presbyterian responded again with a win in No. 6 singles to cut the deficit to 3-2.

Freshman Liz Massie (No. 6) took the first set, 6-3, over PC's Katie Thompson, however, Thompson would force a tiebreaker set and ultimately prevail in earning the win for the Blue Hose on the No. 6 court.

Jenna Vroman faced a challenge on the No. 1 court against Sydney Patton, dropping the first set but taking the second, 6-1, to force a tiebreaker set. Patton jumped out to a 4-2 lead, though, Vroman went on to rally off four straight games to earn her seventh singles win of the year and clinch the win for Wofford up 4-2 with one match remaining.

Presbyterian would take No. 4 singles to end the match, but Wofford would claim the 4-3 victory nonetheless at the end of the day.

Next, the Terriers host University of Rhode Island on Sunday, March 3 at Reeves Tennis Center. First serve is set for 11 a.m.
