SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Wofford senior Fletcher Magee knocked down eight 3-pointers, passing Duke's J.J. Redick to move into second place all-time for career threes (460), as the Terriers rolled past Western Carolina 83-56 at Jerry Richardson Indoor Stadium on Saturday night.
"He's a special man," said Wofford head coach Mike Young of Magee. "He had 32 on Thursday night, and he was in here at 8:30 on Friday morning working on his game. He's a rare man and I'm so thankful for the opportunity to coach him."
Magee led all scorers with a game-high 30 points, tying his season-high for made 3-pointers in a single game, going 8-for-11 from downtown. Cameron Jackson continued to dominate down low, scoring 15 points and grabbing a game-high nine rebounds, while Keve Aluma recorded the second double-double of his career, adding 10 points to go along with 10 rebounds in the win.
Wofford is now 21-4 on the season, improving to 13-0 in Southern Conference play and extending its win streak to 12 games.
"So much went into Thursday," Young said. "We get back into town after midnight, but we had to turn right back around Friday and prepare, and we were not perfect tonight, but I'm proud of our guys tonight."
Magee was in the zone from the start, scoring in the lane and connecting on his first three as the Terriers jumped out to an 11-3 lead. With Western Carolina hanging around, Magee nailed back to back 3-pointers to put Wofford ahead by 14, draining two more to send the Terriers into the break ahead 44-27.
The hot shooting continued for Wofford, as Hoover opened up the second with a 3-pointer, converting a layup the next time down after Jackson swiped his fourth pass of the night from the Catamounts and found the junior in transition.
At the 15:26 mark, Magee got the ball at the top of the key, created room with the dribble and knocked down his 458th career 3-pointer to pass J.J. Redick and move into second place all-time for made threes (NCAA DI).
"It was really cool," Magee said of passing Redick. "I've been watching him since I was young and continue to watch him, see how he gets open, how he gets his shots off and how he works so much off the ball and he had an unbelievable career at Duke, so to pass a guy that I look up to like that is really cool."
Wofford continued to salt the game away, getting threes from Magee and Hoover, capping off the 83-56 victory with a flush from Michael Manning, Jr.
The Terriers return to the court on Thursday, hosting VMI at 7 p.m. The game will be broadcast on ESPN+ and the Wofford IMG Sports Network.
