Women's Tennis Falls to Coastal Carolina

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Wofford women's tennis team fell 4-0 to Coastal Carolina on a chilly, windy day at Reeves Tennis Center on Tuesday afternoon. The match ended by decision as the Chanticleers took the doubles point and first three singles matches to move their record to 2-4, while the Terriers drop to 8-3 overall on the season.

The Chanticleers' took a 1-0 lead to start the match, taking matches on the No. 3 and No. 2 courts in doubles.

Lauren Joch and Liz Massie fell to Alexa Tiefel and Alicja Zduniak, 6-3, in No. 3 doubles to start, as Kay Kluska and Lilie Steryous fell shortly after in No. 2 doubles, 6-2.

No. 1 doubles went unfinished as Cassidy Hicks and Jenna Vroman led 4-3 against Jessie Mount and Jennifer Brown by the end of the prior matches.

Three of the six singles matches were taken into three sets, though, the Chanticleers managed to reel in the first three before any points could be earned for Wofford.

Sophomore Kay Kluska battled against Maria Khomchencko in No. 4 singles, however, Khomchencko would come out on top, 6-3, 6-2.

Freshman Lilie Steryous found herself in a competitive matchup on the No. 3 court against Jessie Mount, coming up just short in the second set after dropping the first, 6-4, 7-5, to give Coastal Carolina a 3-0 lead.

With three other singles matches in tiebreaker sets, the match would finish at No. 5 singles as freshman Liz Massie fought hard against Zduniak, but ultimately came up short, 6-4, 7-5, to grant Coastal Carolina the early 4-0 win.

Next, the Terriers look to bounce back on Saturday, March 9, hosting UNC Asheville at Reeves Tennis Center. First serve is set for a noon start.
