#5 WOFFORD vs. #4 ETSU
THURSDAY, March 7, 2019 – 1:15 p.m.
U.S. Cellular Center
Asheville, N.C.
THE MATCHUP: The Terriers face a rematch of last year's SoCon quarterfinals, taking on the No. 4 seeded ETSU Bucs as a No. 5 seed tomorrow afternoon in the 2019 Ingles Southern Conference Women's Basketball Championship presented by General Shale. Last season, the No. 7 seeded Terriers fell to the No. 2 seeded Bucs, 78-64. Tomorrow's contest marks the third meeting between the two teams this season, as both teams split wins defending their home courts.
DID YOU KNOW: The No. 5 seed marks the highest SoCon tournament seed earned since the 2001-02 season, when the Terriers were placed as a No. 6 seed. The seeding is the highest earned under head coach
Jimmy Garrity, in his third season at the helm of the program.
FIRST ROUND HISTORY: Wofford is 8-13 overall in first round SoCon tournament contests. The Terriers' last playoff win came in the 2011-12 season, when Wofford upset College of Charleston, 64-53, to advance to the quarterfinals.
SEASON OUTLOOK: Wofford finished the regular season 15-14 overall and 7-7 in conference, as the finish marks the first time the Terriers have finished over .500 since the '01-'02 season (16-13, 9-9 SoCon). The seven wins in conference also marks the most SoCon wins since the '06-'07 team, which held a 7-11 SoCon record.
WHAT'S NEXT: The winner of tomorrow's contest will face the winner of No. 1 Mercer/No. 8 Western Carolina in the semifinals on Friday, scheduled for 11 a.m. at the U.S. Cellular Center.
