Spartanburg, SC – The Wofford men's tennis team fought until the very end, but came up just a hair short against Belmont, falling 4-3.
The Terriers were able to secure the doubles point by the pairings of
Julian Chousa and
Omar Williams, and
Lucas Cerbelli and
Diego Losada. Chousa and Williams went down 4-3, but rallied back to get the 6-4 win. With the doubles point being decided on court 3, Cerbelli and Losada had no choice but to win, and that's exactly what they did. Being up 6-5, they had to win the final game. Cerbelli sent the serve, which was returned, but sent out of bounds which gave Wofford the doubles competition win.
Wofford didn't come up quite as fortunate in singles play, but did show plenty of fight in their matches.
Julian Chousa came back to win set 2, 6-2.
Omar Williams came from behind to win set 2 as well, 6-4.
Edu Villar won his match 6-3 and 6-4. And
Callum Rendle won sets 2 and 3, 6-3 and 6-2 to win his matchup.
"It was a great doubles point for us against a very tough opponent", said coach Ray. "We had great determination throughout all of our matchups, including coming from behind to force a 3
rd set in three of our singles games. There are lots of positives to come from this and we will continue to get better."
