Boiling Springs, NC – Wofford's men's tennis team played a strong match against a tough Gardner-Webb team, but was unable to come out on top as they lost 5-2.
Wofford was able to get one win in doubles play as
Julian Chousa and
Omar Williams defeated their opponents 6-4 to tie doubles at the time. The pairing of
Bryce Keim and
Callum Rendle had a tough task at hand as they took their match down to a tiebreaker, but couldn't get the win.
The Terriers started off singles competition strong as
Julian Chousa handily won his match 6-3 and 6-2 to put Wofford on the board.
Diego Losada made it two straight wins for the Terriers as he won 6-1, 6-4 to put the black and gold ahead in the match 2-1. Unfortunately, that would be all that Wofford could muster up as three out of the remaining four matches went to three sets, but the Terriers couldn't find themselves on the winning end.
"We pushed really hard in doubles and took them to a tiebreaker which was nice for our team. We showed a lot of toughness and heart in today's match," said head coach
Rod Ray. "Julian and Diego played really well in singles and gave us the lead in the match, we were just unable to ride that momentum throughout the rest of the day. We will get better and will be prepared for this weekend."
