SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Wofford College men's tennis team picked up a 5-2 win over the College of Charleston on Saturday afternoon at the Reeves Tennis Center. The Terriers won the doubles point and then won four of the singles matches for the victory.
Doubles began with a 6-1 win by
Bryce Keim and
Omar Williams at the number one spot.
Lucas Cerbelli and
Diego Losada picked up a 6-3 win at number three doubles to secure the point.
Singles began with a 6-2, 6-3 win by
Omar Williams at number one.
Callum Rendle won 6-4, 6-4 at number five singles to give Wofford a 3-0 lead in the match. The Cougars won at number three singles and then
Diego Losada picked up a 6-4, 6-3 win at number six singles to secure the win. At number four singles the Cougars added a point, but the match ended with a 6-0, 6-7, 7-5 win at number two singles by
Lucas Cerbelli.
"Our team started strong and stayed hard throughout the match," said head coach
Rod Ray. "Demonstrating toughness and determination was a huge factor in getting today's victory. I'm very proud of our team. Today's fan support from both our campus and the Upstate community was incredible. Thank you to everyone for attending the match and cheering for the team."
The win was the first of the season for the Terriers who are now 1-5. The Cougars are 4-2 on the season. Wofford will be back in action on Sunday at noon against the University of Richmond.
