Spartanburg, SC – Wofford's men's tennis team came up huge when it mattered most in a tightly contested matchup against Richmond, winning in the final match to give the team a 4-3 win. The second win in a row puts the Terriers to 2-5 on the season, while Richmond falls to 3-5.
It was a slow start for the Terriers as they dropped the doubles point, but showed plenty of heart in all of their matches. Wofford fell in each of the doubles matches 6-3, but little did Richmond know that the Terriers would strike back.
Lucas Cerbelli kicked things off with a solid 7-5 and 6-2 win in the number 2 spot. Next to finish was
Omar Williams who screamed as loud as he could after he took down Richmond's number one by a final of 7-5 and 6-4.
Callum Rendle won a gritty match in the number 5 spot as he won the 3
rd set 6-1 after dropping set one. And the party was on as
Diego Losada won the final match of the day 6-1 and 7-5 as his teammates mobbed him on the court after a tense match.
"Lucas, Omar, Callum, and Diego all dug deep to get four courageous wins. I'm super impressed with the fortitude that we displayed today", said head coach
Rod Ray. "This was a great weekend for us, and we have high momentum coming off of this weekend and we will get back to work this week and prepare for Friday."
