Box Score Rock Hill, SC – The Wofford men's tennis team fell on Friday afternoon to Winthrop at the Rock Hill Tennis Center by a final score of 2-5.
After the first two pairings for the Terriers went down in doubles play,
Omar Williams and
Julian Chousa struck back with a win, 7-6, against the Eagles top duo to try and provide a spark for the team heading into singles competition.
Callum Rendle took that momentum and went on to win in the six spot 6-3 in both sets.
Bryce Keim made a valiant effort against his opponent as he won set two 6-2 to force a third set, but lost on a tiebreaker.
Lucas Cerbelli won the first set of his match 6-3, but would eventually fall in three sets. The other win for Wofford came from
Edu Villar in the fourth position. He came back after dropping the first set to win two straight, 6-4 and 6-4.
"As a team, we're disappointed with today's final score. In doubles, we came out with the determination that's needed to win against a good team on the road, but came up just short", said coach Ray. "We had our opportunities in the singles and didn't convert when the stakes were high. I'm confident that we'll be better from this setback."
